Hayneville News. By Pineapple. Everything is moving along in up- to-date style. We have a telephone office here now, and it provides us communication with Hawkinsville and Macon. Both are interesting points to commune with. Rev. W. L. Gutts of Marshallville gave us a very interesting talk Sun day; we also had preaching Satur day afternoon. .This was Bro. Outt’s first visit here. I feel confi dent in saying he made a fine impres sion upon all who heard bis talk. He also preached a very interesting sermon Sunday at Grovania in the Methodist ehuroh. We are trying to organize a Sunday School in our church. There will be preaohing at this church every second Sunday and Saturday by the Baptists, and we have given our consent for the Meth odists to have preaohing 6very 4th Sunday. So all come who can, to attend services on the second Satur day and Sunday, and also the fourth. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Fitzgerald and baby, spent Sunday with the parents of Mrs. Fitzgerald in our village. Miss Lillie B. Skipper is visiting Mrs. Fitzgerald of Grovania. Mr. M. H. Daniel, who is our only “bachelor” near by, spent Sunday with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Till and lit tle daughter, and Mrs. Faughtner of Eiko, were among our congrega tion Sunday at church. The new school house is now about completed, and adds much to the looks of our little village. We are now prepared to accom modate more children at school; and our “little” up-to-date teacher is controlling the children very well, advancing them. The farmers are very well up with their crops, considering so much rain. The grain is looking fine. It is very much feared our fruit will be somewhat short. on aocount of the excessive cold, but hope that is over now. We are to have a marriage in our village before the 1st of June, if cer tain signs count as we think. April 15, 1902. P-+-4 At a meeting of the Georgia Fruit Growers Association at Macon last Thursday, a resolution was adopted providing for an agreement tbVsbjD peaches and other fruits only to such commiasion men as are known to be reliable, and a committee was ap pointed to prepare a list of such commission men aud firms. The •commission men and firms selected will be requested to sign an agree ment to thoroughly co-operate with the fruit growers in selling the fruit and in furnishing necessary infor mation during the shipping season. During the meeting it was stated that freight rates to eastern points are much higher than to western points, and a committee was ap pointed to confer with the railroad authorities with the purpose in view of equalizing the rates. •~~r- - Letter to Mr. J. D. Martin. Perry, Ga. Dear Sir: Looks suspicious—any offer of “Something for nothing” does, unless made by an eminently responsible house, and with proper explanations. We offer you “Free Paint” for your house, because it helps us to establish an agency at your place. Any Mercantile Agency or Bank will tell you that our rating is “BIG” and our credit “HIGHEST.” If yon or any other house-owner intends painting this Spring, send us dimensions of house, and number of coats of paint required, and we will send some tasty color combina tions, and advice as to the number of gallons we’ll ship you “for noth ing.” _ It is conceded by all makers, that we are the largest manufacturers of Prepared Paint in the U. S.; deserv edly s U} as' L. & M. is the only PURE PAINT that stands the ad dition of much Linseed Oil—covers better; lasts longer; and costs less than pure white lead. Glad to hear from 'you. Very sincerely, Longman & Martinez, Paint Makers, *o7 Pearl St., New York City. Umbrellas, Umbrellas,Umbrellas. Just any grade you want. 50c to $3.00 is the way the prices range. L. M. Paul’s. His discourse was good and delivered with force and elo quence. We were favorably im pressed with Brother Cutts and hope to have him preach for us again. Among the audience we noticed quite a number from El ko. We were proud to see them out. The following are their names: Misses Gene Pool, Laura Pool, Ellen Ethridge, Willie Dennard, Emma Means; Messrs. G. D. Fitzgerald, J. D. Means, J. H. Clark, Ross Bragg, W. L. Means, J. R. Mathews, A. Well, ootton planting is in or der and our farmers are making a rush. We hear of some complaint of bad stands of corn. I learn of some who have plowed up and planted over, while others say they have good stands. Our merchants are beginning to complain of dull time3, notwith standing, they say their trade is fair for the time of year. Our Sabbath Sohools discussed yesterday the subject, When and where they should have their school celebration,” but did, not decide upon any definite time or place. Robt. Napier is wearing abroad smile-—a boy. Mr. and Mrs. Louis, A. Shep herd of Macon were the company of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Q. Ellis Sun day. Professor Geo. W. Smith was in our place this morning in interest of his school and farming inter ests. I suppose the professor is a hustler. Mrs. F. C. Henderson, accompa nied by her son, E. B. Henderson, went down to Cordele yesterday to visit her daughter, Mrs. S. R,. Bol ton. Mrs. Henderson will remain in Cordele for some time under medical treatment of Dr. J. B. Edge. 11,1 am promoted to cook again. This is evidence that I have discharged my duties, and it is of no use to put another fellow in my place, because I have had the position so long.
