Elke Etchings. By Uncle Ned. Miss Maude Rogers, a ^charm- ing young lady of Mt. Vernon, Ga., is visiting friends and rela tives here. Miss Amelia Rogers’ school closed last Friday. She returned to her home in Perry Saturday. Miss Mamie Brown is attending the teachers’ institute in Fort Valley this week. Miss Sallie Garrett of Enter prise, Ala. is visiting Mr, and Mrs. W. E. Means here. Miss Elma Houser is visiting relatives in Fort Valley this week. Miss Clyde Buff returned home last week from school ■ at Hawk- insville.. Mrs. L. S. Tounsley of Perry visited Mrg. J. H. Coffee last week. She returned home Satur day. / Miss Julia Turrentine is visit ing relatives in Fo;fc Falley now . Miss Sarah Eubanks and Geo. Eubanks of Henderson were in our city Sunday. Miss Mabel Brewtou returned home last week from La Gtange, where she has been attending school. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Hardison of Macon spent Sunday in our city. Mrs. Hardison will visit friends and relatives here before she re turns, Miss Mabel Brewtou will leave Tnesday for Vienna, where sh'e will assist Rev. Morrell in his meeting there. Miss Susie Jeter of Unadilla is visiting relatives here this week. Messrs. J. L. Eubanks, Mike Pearce, Feltz Irby, Jack Hodge of Henderson, were in our city Sun day afternoon. Mrs. C. E. Eubanks is visiting home folks in Locust Grove this week. She will return next week. Mr. J. 0. Shipp went to Maoon business last week. He is on building Mr. C. E. Eubanks’ house here and is very near completed. Childrens’ Day at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon was quite a success in every way. There was an interesting and in structive program arranged,which was carried' through with much ^>ngs and prayer. A short ad- prress by the pastor, Rev. J. E. ■Ppwers, on the Bible. A collec tion for the distribution^ of Bi bles in destitute places, managed by the Baptist Sunday School Board of Nashville, Tenn, which raised the sum of $7.67,closed the exercises, which were, much enjoy ed by a large and appreciative au dience. " ! —Mr. Walter Smith,, of Hous ton county, returned home last Friday after seving 8 years in the United States army. He first served in Cuba with the Third Georgia Regiment, and upon re- inlistment was consigned to Com pany A. 18th, U. S. infantry, and served two years and 7 months in the Philippine" Islands, northern part of Luzon island. He says the stories of cruelty on the part of the United States officers and soldiers are partly true, but great ly exaggerated. Mr. Smith says his health has been better since he left here than ever before, and he expects to return to the Philip- ppines. He says George Connell, son of the J. B. However j there is much good corn and cotton, and wherever rain has been plentiful, there are some crops that are decidedly good. Auxiliary crops are late, but the energy of our farmers is without limit, and. we dare say the final harvest of the year will make a good showing. Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Hays and daughter,. Lucile,from Macon, are visiting the home of Mr. J. B. Walton. Mr. T. F. Barfield and niece, Pearl George, of Tharp, were in our midst last Friday. Miss Mattie King of Unadilla is visiting her cousin, Mrs. 0. M, Hardison. Mrs. S. L. Taylor of Macon tended our musical recital. Mr. J. J. Holleman, who been successfully managing plaining machine for Mr. H. Hardison, leaves to engage next week in business as lumber in spector for J. A. and D. I. King, Unadilla, Ga. Miss Mamie Hardison is spend ing vacation at Tharpe. Mrs. Connie Cawley of Mil- ledgeville brightens our circle. Mr. Charlie Hardison has been to soe us with his threshing ma chine, so now we can have some .new biscuit to eat with our black berries. We are about sober again, since the election is over. Miss Leila Walton goes to Ma con to-day to begin pipe organ study. Mr J. D, Renfroe is greatly missed already and he left only yesterday for his home at He will soon begin work in bama. / Miss Hattie Hardison is ing relatives in Jones county. Rev, W.^L.^Cutts will preach at Hardison’s to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Alva Lowe was so nnfor- tuneate as to lose his horse this week. Mr. Fletcher Lowe came to his mamma (?)’ last Sunday. Miss Aurie DuPree left yester day for Kathleen, where she will make a short stay. Miss Lillie Rushing attends commencement at Roberta next week. J. L. Morrill of Cartersville, Ga., has been conducting a series of meetings at the Methodist church here for Bro. Brewton, the pastor. Bro. Morrill arrived here on Mon day after the fourth Sunday, and preached regularly three times a day for two weeks, excopt each Saturday afternoon, and seemed not to tire in telling sinners of their lost copdi- tion and exhorting church members to awaken from their lethargy : and work in earnest for their Master. His sermons were all full of the pure Grateful Thanks. In the fullness of my gratitude for the endorsement given me, as sheriff of the county, in the late pri mary, I desire to give public expres sion to my heartfelt thanks,to those friends throughout the county who so earnestly assisted in securing my nomination. Their efforts were as untiring as valuable, and my appre ciation of their friendship is bound less, and will never be forgotten.
