Farming allAloug the line has
been considerably retarded on ac
count of excessive rains. A great
deal of fertilizer is being hauled,
and everything is favorable *or
another large cotton crop to be
planted. Watch out, little cotton
planter, we are going to have you
u the ditch next fall; but with a
arge cotton crop and plenty ne
groes, a hay crop in summer and
dun crop in fall are pretty certain.
One of our best farmers used
sawdust as a fertilizer last year;
wonder if he will this? We have
one objection at least; the chil
dren can’t use the pretty tag9 off
the saokk for thumb papers.

Our R. F. D. service has been
changed, making it far more sat

we got the Journal on Friday,
now we get it on Thursday.
We have heard that at Heard
was heard a case by a jury in jus
tice court on the 14th, and that
one stray mule aud also one stray
cow from some herd wore sold.
Our schools at Bonaire and
Union Academy are progressing
nicely under their efficient teach

While the wind last Monday did
but little damage, it caused a
great deal of uneasiness. We be
lieve it was the most general over
the south of any wind we have ev

Observer Marbury’s storm which
was to reach Georgia last Thurs
day failed to put in its appear

it. The supposition is that it was
either lost, strayed or stolen.

A Church Tribute.
On December 81st, 1902, our
Brother J. D. Clark was called to
his eternal rest, and just as the
evening shades appeared his sweet
Christian spirit took its flight
Heavenward, Brother Clark was
a faithful, devout, follower of our
bleseed Saviour, and in his feeble
way,did what he could for the
Master, and for this as well as his
other good qualities, won the
love of all who knew him. We
feel that the church has lost an
earnest,, devoted, and faithful
member and rejoice to know that
he evidenced the hope of a home
'in glory and sincerely extend our
sympathy to his bereaved brother
aud relatives, praying God that
they, too, may be ready to meet
him and their Saviour in glory.
Resolved that this expression of
our love be published in the
Christian Index aud Home Jour
nal and made a part of our min
utes. 1 Done in conference, Feb.

On last Saturday February 21st 1
there was captured on the farm
of Mr. A. J. Skipper one of the
largest catamounts ever seen in
this settlement. Master James
Skippef, age 11, borrowed Mr. J.
G. Brown’s dogs and went out
huuting. He narrowly escaped
himself, but was successful in his
undertaking. The varment was
about three feet' in height aud
four in length. Little Jimmie is
the smallest wild cat hnuter in
the world, he weighs only 45
pounds. Cue of the front feet of
the cat is iu possession of Mr. J.
G. Brown Jr. to whom the dogs
belonged, aud the other sent to
the editor of the Home Journal.
Here’s Hayneville’s Champion
cat hunter. We, defy the Presi
dent, who wodldn’t shoot the
Mississippi bear because it was
black, to find a hunter of his age
who will equal him unless he se
lects some of Booker T. Washing
ton’s crowd, Dr. Orumbe or the
Mormon senator and his guest.
Our little champion is no respect
er of colors or auimals, but has
the true, white patriotic blood in
him and let’s nothing black sur
pass him. I send the cat’s foot
Mr. Editor.

home last Thursday.
Mrs. J. W. Mercer aud babies
have been visiting relatives in
Pitts and Cordele.
We are sorry to note the deatli
of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Shephard’s
little infant baby. The remains
were interred at the Hayneville
cemetery last Tuesday evening.
