Half
Women as Well as Men
Are Made Miserable by
Kidney Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, dis
courages and lessens ambition; beauty, vigor
and cheerfulness soon
disappear when the kid
neys are out of order
“ or diseased.
Kidney trouble has
become so prevalent
that it is not uncommon
for a child to be born
’ affiicted with weak kid
neys. If the child urin-
. „ , ates to ° often * th e
urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child
reaches an age when it should be able to
control the passage, it is yet afflicted with
bed-wetting, depend upon it,- the cause of
3he difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first
step, should be towards u the treatment of
these important organs. * This unpleasant
trouble is due to a diseased condition of the
kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as
most people suppose.
Women as well as men are made mis
erable with kidney and bladder trouble,
and both need the same great remedy.

to
prove that the disease now epidemic
ae Byron is not chicken pbx(varicella),
but small pox (varicola. There has
developed up to date 70 or 100 cases,
the average case presenting the fol
lowing symptoms; A feeling of mal
aise, or lassitude, followed by a chill;
headace, especially at the junction
of the back of the head and neck; se
vere backache,the pain being reflect
ed down the lower limbs; nausea and
vomiting. Vomiting frequently per
sistent and recaloitrant to treatment,
In severe cases blood being ejected
with the vomitus. Fever from 102£
to 104^-; pulse 90 to 110; prostration
marked; fever aud other symptoms
persist for three or four days. On
evening of the 3rd or morning of 4th
day, fever and other symptoms sub
side with the appearance of the rash.
This appears first on the forehead,in
the margin of the hair and on the
wrists, as coarse red spots. Ihese be
come elevated in 24 hours, (papule),
and are of a shotty hardness to the
touch. These papules are followed
by a vescile and this in turn be
comes umbilicated. As the utnbili-
cation subsides, there is a small black
spot marking the former site of cen
tral depression. On the 8th day the
oontents of the vesicle become puru
lent (pustules). This is surrounded
by a red band (areola). With the
appearance of the pustules the fever,
secondary, riseB^again; secondary fe
ver 99 to 101, subsides in 24 to 48
hours. In cases where rash is limited
no secondary fever. Patients usually
complain of a disagreaable odor at
this stage. Dessioation (drying)and
desquamation (falling off) of the
scales is usually completed by the
21st day. These ore symptoms of
au average case, some milder, some
more severe.
Reasons why it is not chicken pox,
but small pox: “Chicken pox is a
peculiar disease attacking only chil
dren.”—Hughs. “Chicken pox, a
disease of childhood, fl to 10 years
old; rarely seen in adults,”—Osier.
Adults have been attacked as fre
quently in proportion as children.
All authors agree that vaccination
does not protect from chicken pox.
This disease has skipped the vacoin-
ated and attacked the unvacoinated.
It skips the vaccinated of a family
with almost human-like intelligence.
This disease has attacked no one,
with one exception, that has been
successfully vaccinated within 20
years. This was a young lady in
whom vaccination took imperfectly.
This is the case referred to in last
week’s article as following vaccina
ation, and also the case with only
one bump. All authors agree that
one attack of chicken pox protects
from subsequent attacks; 95 per cent,
of these cases have had chicken pox.
Ohicken pox symptoms are so slight
that the disease would not be sus
pected were it not for the appear
ance of the rash. The eruptions in
chicken pox appear first on the body
and the scales fall off in 3 to 5 days.
In the cases rash appears first on the
forehead, in the margin of the hair
and on the wrists. The scales rarely
fall off before the 21st day. Ohicken
pox rarely forms pustules. These
cases always form pustules. Some
wish to know why more cases do not
pit. Discreet (mild) small pos is not
as'apt to pit as chickenpox. Last, but
not least,we have vaccinated a num
ber of rieople, some two or three
times, tha^t have had this disease and
in no instance has it shown signs of
taking.
We think these facts and reasons
(we give as our authority any mod
ern testbook of medicine) will con
vince any one that the disease in
question is small pox, if he is not as
a woman is reputed to be:
“Convince a woman against her will
And she is of the same opinion still.”
