Women as Well as Men
Are Made Miserable by
Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, dis
courages and lessens ambition; beauty, vigor
and cheerfulness soon
disappear when the kid
neys are out of order
‘ or diseased.
Kidney trouble has
become so prevalent
thafit is not uncommon
for a child to be born
’ afflicted with weak kid
neys. If the child urin
ates too often, if the
urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child
reaches an age when it should be able to
control the passage, it is yet afflicted with
bed-wetting, depend upon it, the cause of
•jhe difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first
step should be towards the treatment of
these important organs.® This unpleasant
trouble is due to a diseased condition of the
kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as
most people suppose.
Women as well as men are made mis
erable with kidney and bladder trouble,
and both need the same great remedy.

Dr. Miles' Heart Cure
Cured Me.
One person In every four has a weak heart.
Unless promptly treated a weak heart will
easily become a diseased heart. A little extra
strain from any cause is sufficient to bring on
this deadly malady, the most common cause
of sudden death. Dr. Miles’ Heart Cure will
tone up the heart’s action, enrich the blood
and improve the circulation,
“My trouble began with catarrh and I have
supposed it caused the trouble I have
always supp
experienced
r with my heart. I had the usual
symptoms of sleeplessness, lost appetite, con
stipation, palpitation of the heart, shortness

Moonlight on the Lake.
One of the most pleasant social
occasions of the season was enjoyed
at Elko last Friday night in the na
ture of a moonlight picnic, given by
the young ladies and young men of
that superbly fine little city. Thurs
day night was the time appointed
for the picnic, but on account of the
severity of the weather was post
poned until the following evening.
Although this was quite a disap
pointment, we were not slow in for
getting such disappointments when
the affair, took place, and we think it
safe to say not a person present re
membered any disappointments or
troubles they might have had previ
ously,as our fair hostesses and hand
some hosts displayed rare gifts in
the art of entertaining.
The night, although a little cloudy
at first, could not have been more
adaptable for the occasion. Luna
seemed to put forth her greatest ef
forts to help add to our pleasure,
and neyer before did she cast her
silver rays upon a happier gather
ing. The grounds were beautifully
decorated with Japanese lanterns of
many colors and shapes. Boating
on the lake was enjoyed until a late
hour, when a delicious luncheon was
served.
The good fried chicken, sand
wiches, salads, cakes, ice cream, and
in fact everything good to eat, and
the best of it, proved Elko’s young
ladies to be highly educated in the
culinary art. What could be more
enjoyable to the boys than eating
these good things while basking in
the beautiful moonbeams and in the
presence of their lovely companions?
No wonder several of us returned
home leaving our hearts behind, but
with the consolation of the happy
hope of having brought away others
in lieu thereof. We all hope that in
the near future the happy occasion
will be repeated.
About thirty-five couples were
present, including visitors from Per
ry, Grovania, Henderson, Macon
and other places. '
Thote of us from Perry who were
.so fortunate as to be favored with
invitations will never be able to ex
press to the people of Elko our sin
cere appreciation for their kindness
in remembering us.

der left arm. My mother suffered in the same
way and I suppose mine was an inherited
tendency. At one time I was in agony. I
suffered, so severely and became so weak
that my" doctors said I could not live thirty
days. At this time I had not slept over two
hours a night on account of nervousness.
The least exercise, such as walking about,
would bring on palpitation and fluttering of
the heart so severe that I would have to give
up everything and rest. Nerve and Liver
Pills cured me of constipation and heart
symptoms disappeared, under the influence
of Dr. Miles’ New Heart Cure. I am in
better health than I have been in twelve
years and I thank Dr. Miles’ Remedies font.
1 think they are the grandest remedies on
earth and I am constantly recommending
them to my friends.”—Mrs. L. J. Cantrell,

Home Mission Items, June, 1903.
Rev. Frank Thomafe, in Central
Methodist, says: “If there is one
department of our church work
which iB attacking in a practical
way the problems of our civilization,
it is the Woman’s Home Mission
Society.” Another minister com
mends the methods used by the
women to the brethren. Let us take
courage and thank God for the suc
cess He has given us.
The Board of Missions at St.
Louis recently decided to ask the
church to raise $500,000 this year
for missions in memory of our great
founder, John Wesley, $350,000 to
be used at home in furthering city
evangelization, and other home mis
sion work.
The Woman’s Home Mission So
ciety has regularly organized city
mission boards doing city evangeli
zation work in the following cities:
Atlanta, Nashville, Norfolk, Augus
ta, Jacksonville, Memphis, St. Louis,
New Orleans, Savannah, Thomasville,
Dallas, Knoxville and Louisville,
The Holston conference leads all
other conferences in number of aux
iliaries; Northwest Texas leads ii

cannot our South Georgia confer
ence lead this year in increase of
auxiliaries? This is what our work
needs. Supt. of Literature.

The Buyer’s Gain.
In Houston county a decade ago
a fisherwoman was much disappoint
ed that, after “taking a nap,” there
was a \ery small fish at her side,
whereas there was a large fish there
before she slept, and in her chagrin
she exclaimed: “My Gawd, how dat
fish am swunk.”
An incident in Houston county
last week produced a like regret, but
the chagrin was caused by a swell in
vulues, rather than a shrinkage.
