Women as Well as Men
Are Made Miserable by
Kidney Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, dis
courages and lessens ambition; beauty, vigor
and cheerfulness soon
disappear when the kid-
neyi are out of order
’ or diseased.
Kidney trouble has
become so prevalent
[ that it is not uncommon
for a child to be born
1 afflicted with weak kid
neys. If the child urin-
. ates too often, if the
urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child
reaches an age when it should be able to j
control the passage, it is yet afflicted with i
bed-wetting, depend upon it. the cause of i
*ie difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first i
step should be towards the treatment of ,
these important organs. • This unpleasant :
trouble is due to a diseased condition of the '
kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as
most people suppose.
Women as well as men are made mis
erable with kidney and bladder trouble,
and both need the same great remedy.

Mossy Hill Notes.
BY fcOCKS.
Everything has been quite calm
on the Hill since the storm. What
open col ton was in the fields was
badly stained. One farmer informs
me the storm proved a great bless
ing to him, as it helped his hay
crop. He declares his other crops
are so poor they couldn’t be hurt.
Cotton has opened very slowly. - One
of my neighbors had gathered up to
this date last year 74 bales and this
year only 10. Yet we notive from
the Journal that a prominent man
ufacturer and warehouseman of Ma
con says there will be at least 15 per
cent more cotton made this year
than there was last. It is a very
easy thing for one of these manu
facturers to fly around the country
in his automobile and get a glimpse
of a patch or two of overgrown
weed,and without stopping to ex
amine the crop go back and and
draw on his fertile imagination to
newspaper reporters.
mad dog caused considerable
excitement on the Hill this after
noon. After attacking dogs on sev
eral places on the road, he was run
down and killled by Mr. E. B. Till.
Many of the neighbors are get
ting their exhibits for the county
fair in shape. We have lately taken
a trip to Horsehead City, Emerich
and other places, and many asked
about space to show their exhibits,
bat the best of |U was we found ev
erybody enthusiastic for Houston to
capture the big prize at the State
Fair.
The school opened with a full at
tendance on The Hill; still there are
a few seats vacant that can be se
cured if application is made at once.
’Pnssums and ’taters are ripe, and
mullei suppers are on deok, so there
is yetgjoy in the old land, in spite
of wind or high water.
Hayneville News.
By Pineapple.
Messrs. A. J. Skipper and G. T.
Brown made a business trip to Ma
con last Saturday.
Air. and Mrs. W. S. Haley spent
last Sunday with Airs. Skipper.
We regret to note the illness of
our Sunday School superintendent,
and wish for him a speedy recovery.
Our Sunday School is still classed
with No. 1.
Miss Delia Etheridge, who has
been visiting Mrs. Fitzgerald, re
turned to her home near Hawkins-
ville Sunday afternoon, leaving many
who wish for another visit from her
in the early future.
Several of Hayneville’s boys, to
gether with Mr. W. T. Powell, went
serenading Saturday night. We hope
they will take it in mind to unite
again and visit each family, as some
were passed by.
Miss Emma Barfield opened school
here last Monday, and as she failed
to get a sufficient number of pupils
to meet her demands, she gave it
up, and I have been informed that
she will take charge of Grovania
school. What’s the matter with our
village that failure reigns? It ap
pears that the patrons have lost all
seeming interest, and fail to see the
need of a school in our community.
Mr. Luke Akin was in our midst
Sunday, the guest of his brother.
Well, cold weather has arrived and
soon it will be “cane grinding and
’tater digging; put on your oak logs
and rake out the ashes.”
Thursday Afternoon Club.
On Thursday afternoon, Septem
ber l?th, Mrs. W. H. Norwood en
tertained in honor of her daughter,
Mrs. George P. Flanders, of Scot
land, Ga.
Our hostess received most graoe-
fully, assisted by her daughter, and
after all had assembled the club was
called .to order. Our little business
was soon dispensed with, and Miss
Norwood introduced a game which
kept us quiet for a t.irae and served
to sharpen our wits a bit. It con
sisted of a list of questions and
phrases, each of which was to be
answered by a county of Georgia.
After the papers were collected re
freshments were served-—dainty and
tempting plates of—boiled ground-
peas. Though intended as a bur
lesque, cne cestaiuly would not have
thought so, as they were partaken
of with great relish; and many of
the plates were returned empty.
We then had a musical medley.
Miss Norwood read thp romance,
and at each pause Miss Maybelle
Dasher, who presided at the piano,
played an air, the name of which
supplied the missing words. We
guessed and wrote amid much mer
riment, endeavoring to complete the
story.
This done, our hostess invited us
to the dining room, whioh was light
ed and beautifully decorated. Hand
some palms, ferns and a pyramid of
fine geraniums lent their beauty to
the room, and the yellow lights shed
a soft radiance over the whole, mak
ing a lovely soene indeed. We lin
gered over the delicious oream and
cakes that were served; reluctant to
leave suoh a bower of beauty.
On our return to the parlor the
judges were oalled upon as to the
successful contestants. Airs. W. B.
Sims won the prize for the first
game. For the seeond game Mrs.
O. E. Brunson and Mrs. H. T. Law
son tied, and as Mrs. Brunson got
the longest straw, she was the hap
pj recipient of the prize.
All are indebted to Mrs. Norwood
for a delightful afternoon.
Mrs, L. M. Paul will entertain on
October 1st at 3:30 p. m. O. E.

Habits Be Cured?
It is reported from Washington
that the average life of a treasury
note is between three and four
years, and that about a million and
half dollars of these notes are de
stroyed each day. About half a doz
en laborers at $60 per month are
employed to do this work, and the
bills are cut into shreds by machin
ery and then reduced to a watery
pulp. Thus we see that men are
hired to destroy money as well as to
make money. See a lesson here.
