They had, been married only a
few months, and the wife stood
by the side of her husband look
ing into one of the department
store windows, says the Philadel

or made dress took her fancy, and
she left her husband to examine
it more closely. Then she went
back to him, still talking.
“You never look at anything I
want to look at any more,” she
complained. “You don’t care
how I dress. You don’t care for
ine any more. Why, you haven’t
kissed me for two weeks.”
“Indeed I am sorry, but is not

Turning, the lady looked at
him and gasped. She had taken
the arm of the wrong man.

The road is willing to make some
provision for such’ men if did age

The Central of New York and
the Pennsylvania Railroads have
age limits. They will, not era-
ploy ( middle-aged or old men un
less it be for some special work
that will occupy but a compara
tively short time; Their view is
that they can get far better ser-
yice from'young men, and . in
these days of fierce competition,
good service is what is demandkl.
Besides, the roads want men who
can prepare themselves for pro
motion. It is expected that they
will become familiar with rail
road work, and, therefore, fitted
to take higher positions. Mid
dle-aged men are slow to learn,
and generally remain in posi
tions to which they were first ap
pointed,
It is evident that employment
conditions for old men are get
ting harder all' the time. They
are not wanted, in any kind of
business. A man of 55 or 60,years
of age who fails in business, or. is
thrown out of employment, is iu
