Postmaster Boughtou has re
ceived instructions from the post-
office department at Washington
to establish rural route No. 1
from Perry on November 2ud
next.
The route will go east from
.Perry to the King plantation,
thence to Deimard, then west.to
Tharp’s milk road, thehce north
east toward that mill, turning
west via Wasne.r’s farm to Ma
con road; north to Marshall
farm, thence west and north
west to S. T. Hurst’s farm, thenoe
south to Perry.
The route will cover 28 miles,
serving 101 heads of families and
505 persons.
Tne schedule will be: Leave
Perry at 8 a. m. and return to
Perry at 2 p. m.
Mr. W. J. Boon gained the ap
pointment as oarrier through a
competitive examination several
weeks ago.
Postmaster Bbughton says the
establishment of this route is
argely due to Hon. E. B. Lewis,
our representative in congress.

—At the Perry Baptist church
last $uuday night, Rev* Albert S.
Dix preached his farewell sermou.
The sermon was a prayer and a
benediction to the church mem
bers whoin the pastor had served
faithfully and well for two years.
He will fili his first appointment)
as, pastor of the Forsyth Baptist
churoh neift Sunday, and hre fam
ily will join him there, early next
week. Mr. Dix is a scholar, an
earnest Christian, an able preach
er, a gentleman who deserves the
confidence and esteem of all men.
His departure from Perry is much
regretted, as will also . be that of
liis most estimable wife and lov-,
able children.
—Dr. T. K. Tharpe received
Tuesday morning from Chatta
nooga, Tenn., a telegram stating
that his niece, Fannie Herny, had
been accidentally killed there by
being run over by a wagon. The
child was about j.1 years old, oldr
eat child, of Mr. and Mrs. R. S.
Henry- Mrs . Henry was Miss Ja-,
nie Tharp, youngest daughter .of
Mr. James D. Tharp of Houston,-
sister of Dr. T. K. Tharp. The
parents,, and the relatives here,
have the sincere sympathy of their
many friends. *
R. N.' Holtzclaw has
entirely. recovered from his re
cent illness. On last Friday he
was at his office down town, the
first time since his illness began
on Friday previous. , This was
the first time Maj. Holtzclaw had
been confined to his bed during
an entire day within more than
27 years. His health had been
almost, perfect since several years
before his marriage.
—Mr. George G. Tounsley, who
is in business at Columbus, was
in Perry last. Monday, his first
visit to his former home in six
years, Though he came on busi
ness, he took occasion to meet a
considerable number of his friends
who were glad to see him.
