No. 814 Second St., Macon, Ga.
One of the most delightful oc
casions in history of the club
was the meeting at the home of
Mrs. L.. M. Paul on Thursday,
October 1st. This entertainment
was unique and elegant in every
detail, *as are all that Mrs. Paul
gives.
Besides the olub-members there
were quite a number of invited
guests present, Mrs. Paul was
assisted in receiving by Mrs.
Clint Duncan, Jr. .
The ball was beautified by many
landsome ferns and other plants.
!!n one corner ' was the punch
bowl surrounded by scarlet gera
niums, which rested upon a beau
tiful drawn-work cover. Miss
Baldwin,in her|charming manner,
served refreshing punch.
Mrs. Paul announced that we
were to have a musical afternoon.
There were piano solos and du
ets, vocal solos, a mandolin solo,
and recitations, all of which were
well rendered and enjoyed by ail.
At the conclusion of the pro
gram, we Were invited to the din
ing room. There the color scheme,
green and white, was beautifully
carried t out in refreshments and
decoration.
Delicious cake and cream were
served and bon-bons and salted
peanuts passed by Masters Lee
Minor and Frank Paul. The
dainty green and white bon-bons
instead of being Hurler’s crea
tions, as one might infer, were
the work of the fair hostess’ own
bands.
The club was called to order by
our president, Mrs, 0. E. Gilbert,
and business soon disposed of.
The club will meet with Mrs.
John Powers on Friday, October
16th, at 8:80 o’clock, instead of
Thursday as usual.

—Last Saturday night Mrs' J.
A. Riley’s night blooming cerus
plant developed two more beauti
ful blooms. At sundown two
dark brown buds were there, but
within less than two hours they
were transformed into'exquisitely
beautiful white flowers. Several
neighbors enjoyed with Mrs. Ri
ley and daughters the transfor
mation scene—blooming by moon
light.

Fell from A Load of Hay.
Last Friday afternoon Mr. .T,
J. Marshburif of Perry was pain
fully hurt ou bis farm near Kath
leen. Being scarce of laborers,
le was assisting in the hay har
vest. Having stacked the hay on
the wagon, a very high load, he
attempted to assist the negro
man, who had loaded,the wagon,
to get up on top of'the hay. He
leaned over and clasped the ne
gro’s haud to help him up, but
the negro’s foot slipped from the
wagon wheel and he fell to the
? ;roupd, unhurt. As the negro
ell, his hand slipped from Mr.
Marshburn’s grasp, .and, Mr.
Marshburn fell backward to the
ground on the opposite side of the
wagon. Fortuuately his shoulder
struck the groond, instead of his
[lead, and no bones were brokenj
There was painful internal injury
just below the breast-bone, on
the left side, but as he has stead
ily improved since he reached
home that evening, no apprehen
sion of serious result is apprehen
ded.
Though ooufined to his bed, he
is steadily recovering.
