In Loving Memory.
The dark angel of death visited
the home of Mr. John McDowell,
of near Elko, at 8:80 o’clock
Wednesday afternoon, November
18th, and olalmed his darling
wife, the light and sweet pleasure
of his home.
She was about forty-one years
old, and well known in both
Houston and Dooly oouuties.
During her short illness she
suffered much, and all that lov
ing hearts and tender hands could
do availed not, for the God who
gave had olaimed the precious
Bpirit of the dear woman.
She leaves a bereaved husband
and six small children to mourn
her death, besides a host of rela
tives and friends, with whom we
sincerely sympathize in their sor
row.
“Farewell, dear friend, farewell,
But there will be a glorious dawn;
We hope to meet, to part no more,
Rest
On that Resurrection morn.
“Though thy wife-and mother lie sleeping
In the cold and silent tomb,
There will be a glorious waking
When the blessed Lord doth oome.”
A Friend.
—Houston people who buy
shoes in Macon have a wide range
of choice.. Among the best shoe
stores is that of the Permenter
Shoe Co., at 421 Third street
in A. B. Small’s old stand. The
manager, Mr. R. L. Permenter
is a graduate in the shoe trade
as is also the chief salesman, Mr
H. V. Balksuh. The stock of
shoes has been largely increased
and the new ‘store gives ranch
more room. In all grades/ they
offer the very best value ,for the
kast money, while theii? large lot
of sample shoes affords a special
bargain in each pair. See new
ad. in this paper.
—While in Per^y last Monday
Mr. Forest Vartfer told us that
many hogs that/'were nearly ready
for the slaught/|? pen had recently
died of cholert^fin the Upper fifth
district. HeJsays that within a
week Mr, Sain Thomson of near
Hattie lost ^swenty-all his entire
dependency for meat next year.

“My people perish for lack of
Knowledge.’’
Our women need to know the
plans and undertakings of our or
ganization to secure their inter
est. Through this department
let us give them personally, or
on the printed page, a clear con-
ception of the scope of our work.
Auxiliary Superintendents, do
you realize this great responsibili
ty upon you? Upon you in a
great measure is resting the bur
den and privilege of bringing to
them this knowledge.
Growth.—Our Rescue Home
and Training School at Dallas
has opened a Bazaar at 870 Elm
street. Under the management
of Miss Hartmau, it gives prom
ise of great good to the institu
tion. Miss, Hartman was trained
in Moody Bible School, and like
many of our workers, has giveu
up much that the world calls de
sirable, in order to serve her
Lord.
A Stock Company.—That nev
er tiring Superintendent of the
Resoue Home, Mrs. VY. H. John
son, has launched a plan to raise
$50,000 to build such a home,as
will meet the demands upon us.
3he oalIs for women everywhere
to take shares iu a stock compa
ny to raise this amount. Shares
may be had at $1.00.each.
How many will you take? 1,100
shares have already been taken.
Do you want a share in this com:
pauy, that will receive no divi
dends in dollars and oents, but
will be stored in the Book of
Heaven to be checked upon
throughout eternity?
This is our only Resoue work.
Let us rally to it from California
to Maryland.
SUHT. OF LITERATURE.

“down town’’ last Monday on
crutches. About two weeks ago
small bones in his right ankle
were broken by a [fall, and we are
