Our New Methodist Pastor.

FO-.iT VALLEY, ga
Rev. John W, Simmons, new pas
tor of the Methodist charge at Per
ry and Providence, reached Perry
with his family from Macon last
Friday. The train from Macon was
delayed," and they reached Perry at
about 4 o’clock; instead of -at 1:10.
This did not interfere, however; with
the cordiality of the welcome extend
ed at the depot and at the parson
age.
The committee of ladies had been
thorough in their hospitable prepa
rations, and the household was for
tified. with home -comforts enough at
least"to‘ give the new inn ates time
to get their bearings.
The family consists of the wife
and mother, Mr. J. W. Simmons, Jr.,
a student of Mercer University,
James A., in business at Columbus,
Miss Georgia, a student of 'Wesleyan
Female College: and Master William.
All will be at home, in Perry during
the Christmas liolidaj’s.
Though now our mow pastor, Mr.
Simmons needs no introduction to;
most of our people, for he is favora
bly known to many of them as a
man and minister. He preached his
first sermon of the new conference
year'at the Methodist church last
Sunday morning. The congregation
was ’unusually large for such cold
weather,and the'discourse was high
ly appreciated,
We reproduce the following reso
lutions adopted by the South Macon

No casualties of serious character,
and no extraordinary disorder. San

some of which there were Christmas
trees, and the children have given
ample and audible evidence of their
happiness. The midweek prayer ser

keeping with tho Christian accepta

Thursday nights.
“Resolved, That we, as members

in preaching the word of God has
been to elevate ajid draw us nearer
to our blessed Saviour, and bring us

he has paved the way for a far bet

God’s choicest blessings may rest

We pray that He who has promised
never to leave or forsake us may ev
