The Twelfth District.
Every Thursday Morning.
'V’ft&ctol Organ of Houston County
If the Senate accepts the bill to in
crease the number of congressmen from
391 to 433, already passed by the
House of Representatives, Georgia will
bo entitled to another congressman
and a 12th district will have to be
formed.
In anticipation of this necessity
fnm.SU ’ZO'OOHIB, Editor and Publisher p on> Vmson.of Baldwin county,
— £■£»? has prepared a bill to re-arrange the
<g"«*RY Thursday, May 25. j 146 countiesi of Georgia into twelve
congressional districts.

the 7th to 224,505 in the second.
The proposed new district i« made
up of counties now in the second, third,
fourth and sixth districts, to-wit:
Pike, Monroe, Upson, Crawford,
Taylor, Talbot, Harris, Muscogee,
Macon, Schley, Marion, Chattahoo
chee, Stewart, Webster, Randolph,
Quitman.
The arrangement is so made that
no congressman is taken out of the
district he represents, though in some
at least half the counties have been
displaced.
Six counties have been taken from
the third district, and four have been
added, Turner, Irwin, Terrell and
Worth.
Of course many of us would dislike
lo part from our old friends of Craw
ford, Macon, Taylor, Schley, Stewart
and Webster, though glad to become
closely associated with the people of
tho added counties.
Though; apparently devoid of per
sonal politics, or scheme of any sort,
itjis not likely that Mr. Vinson’s ar
rangement will be accepted without
thorough consideration. While it ap
pears to bo just, and tho population
average as near correct as could be
made, there will be other plans, and
tho proposition will be fraught with
vigorous contention.
