Evans, of the United States court in charging the grand jury here said after the peace treaty has been signed great care should be taken to prevent the scum of Europe being dumped into this country. He referred to the re cent plot to send bombs through the malls to prominent men as one of the upset ideas at present rampant throughout the country. He declared the problem of illicit distilling, while a local one, demanded investigation and solution at tho hands of the grand juiprs. \bur Blood Needs' SIMM Farmers Holding For 35 Cents Cotton Americus. — Four hundred and twelve bales of cotton were sold here for 30 cents, good middling basis, be ing the highest price paid since De cember 31 last. B. C. Hodges sold one lot of 350 bales for 28 9/16 cents, it being off grade, or on a basis of 80.25 for good middling. Warehouse men who have been holding large lots for 30 cents, reported farmers have revoked their selling orders and are now holding for 35 cents. There are several thousand bales in Americus warehouses, but none for sale at pre vailing qoutations. Sixty Bales Of Cotton Destroyed McDonough.—Fifty or sixty bales of cotton caught fire on the depot plat form in course of shipment and were burned up. By prompt response of the fire department a serious confla gration was averted, as a large ware house immediately adjoining the plat form was full to overflowing. It is supposed a spark from a passing en gine atarted the fire, but the origin is not definitely known. Only the outside of tho bales was burned over, with but little damage. Georgia, Houston County. President C. G.
