—Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Berry spent
part of last week in Atlanta.
—There will be preaching at
Tharpe’s Memorial Church on Sunday
morning at eleven oclock.
—Miss Hazel Holt of Macon is vis
iting her aunt Mrs. E. B. Hose in
Perry.
—Miss Lucy Talton of Kathleen
was the guest of Miss Ethel Hodges
several days this week.
—Mrs. Morgan Yates of Macon is
in Perry visiting home-folks; she will
attend the Hurst-Cutts marriage on
Wednesday evening.
—Mrs. Neal McPhaul and young
daughter of Poulan are at the home
of her mother, Mrs. S. T. Hurst this
week and will attend the marriage of
her sister Miss Hazel Hurst on Wed
nesday evening.
— Quite a number of relatives
and attendants are in Perry to attend
the Hurst- Cutts marriago on Wed
nesday evening. The coremony takes
place several hours after going to
press, but detailed account will be
published next week.
—Divine services will be held in
the Powersville Congregational
(Church on Sunday, June 22nd, at
11 o’clock n. m. and 8 p. m. At the
morning service the pastor will speak
on “Love, the grcteBt force in the
moral universe.” x.
Mr. Windell K. Pierce Jr. ar
rived in Perry last Friday after about
nine months service in France. He
wbb with a Replacement Hospital
unit which served at the battle of the
Argonne Forest, as well as in other
sections in France. His friens are
glad to welcome him back home.
Among the many lovely social af
fairs centering arotfnd the charming
' bride-elect, Miss Hazel Hurst, one of
the lovliest was the miscellaneous
shower given by Miss Lucy Talton of
Kathleen on last Friday afternoon.
The unusually beautiful house was
particularly attractive with its whole
lower floor thrown together, artisti
cally decorated with its vases of cut
flowers. Among those assisting in
entertaining were Mrs. A. R. Talton
and Misses Laura and Mary Talton.
In the receving line with the hostesd
and the honor guest Miss Hurst, were
Mesdames H. E. Talton and Robert
Walker, Morgan Yates, G. L. Small,
J. Alva Davis, Misses Nonnette Rosar,
Ruth Gilbert, Ethel Iloiiges, Aurelia
Cooper, Lula Hur3t.
A very unique feat’..? of the after
noon, was the way in which the bride
was offered the advise of her friends
The guests were asked to give re-
ceipes for managing a husband, mak
ing their names as acrostics in the
sentences of advise. Quit a number
of clever and witty rcceips were of
fered, which were presented in a
lovely book presented the brie-elect.
Then the whistle of a postman at
the door, and it was announced that
there were two parcel-post packages
to be signed for by Miss Hazel Hurst.
The packages were opened by Miss
Hurst amid her friends, and proved
to be numbers and numbers of beauti
ful shower gifts. The great number of
remembrances and and their unusual
beauty attested the wide popularity
of the bride-elect, who is loved by
every one who knows her.
During the evening refreshing
punch was served by Misses Martha
Riley and Lucia Small. Delightful
cream and cake, both carrying out
the color scheme of pink and white
were also served.
Quite a number of gueBts motored
out from Perry.

—The friends of Mr. Herchel
Scarbrough will be interested to know
that he has accepted a position with
The XV Clothes Shop in Macon since
his return from France. He will be
glad to meet his Perry and Houston
County friends at his new place of
business.
—Miss Bessie Barker left last week
for Atlanta where she has accepted a
postion al? steno-bookkeeper for Dr.
Arch C. Cver, Secretary and Treas
urer of the Baptist Home Mission
Board of Georgia. She is very fortun
ate to secure this position and her
many friends wish her success in her
work.
—Lieut Ben C. Holtzclaw returned
to Perry Monday after an absence of
nine months with the A. E. F. in
Franco. He was a member of the
Field Artillery of the 81st Division,
and while his battery did not partic
ipate in the actual fighting he was
just behind the battle front when
the armisice was signed, and clas
enough to experience some of the
thrills. His many friends are glad to
see him back home again.

BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON PARTY.
Mrs. E. W. palor, Mrs. H. T.
Gilbert, and Miss Ruth Gilbert enter
tained Monday afternoon at a de
lightful party. The honorees of the
occasion were Mrs. Jesse W. Davis,
Mrs. Lee M. Paul Jr., Miss Hazel
Hnrst and Miss Stdla Thurmond.
In the spacious hall which was at
tractive with decorations of blue hy
drangeas, fruit punch was served by
.a group of attractive young girls.
The dining roow and pored were
attracively decorated with beautiful
cut-flowers and ferns.
Pink and white ice-craam, cake and
mints were served.

DELIGHTFUL ROOK PARTY.
Miiss Louise Holtzclaw was a
charming hostess Saturday afternoon
at an informal rook party, given in
honor of' Mrs. Lee M. Paul Jr. and
Miss Hazol Hurst, btfide elect.
The porch where the guests were
entertained was unusually attractive
with pot plants and cut flowers.
A deliightful course of sherbet,
sandwiches, and salted nuts was serv
ed.
About twenty guests were invited..

BRIDE-ELECT ENTERTAINED
On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. J.
Powers Cooper entertained delight
fully for Miss Hazel Hurst, popular
bride-elect of the season.
The lower floor of the beautiful
home was thrown together and was
unusually attractive with its decora
tions of pink hydrangeas, pink roses
and farns.
Punch was served from a beautiful
ly decorated table in the dining room.
Delightful ice-cream, cakes and
mints, in pink and white, were served.
About one hundred guests enjoyed
occasion.
On last Thursday afternoon,

Minor Paul, Jr., Mrs. Jessie Davis
