GRAND JURY PRESENTMENTS.
HOUSTON SUPERIOR COURT
APRIL TERM 1922
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, APRIL 21-22.
We the Grand Jury, serving the
A pril Term 1922, beg leave to re
port the following General Pre
sentments:
Wo have examined the Justice
of the Peaco and Publics books,
find all those sent in, to be accur
ately kept, so far as w.c can see.
There wore no books from Dis
tricts Nos. 790, 492, 92G, 642- 765,
527, 541, and 928. There were no
\ital statistic records, except from
Districts Nos. 771, 500 and 709.
We submit the report of Mr.
Meekin, an auditor employed by
the County Commissioners to au
dit tbe books of the various cou'n-'
ty officers. We beg to call atten- 1
tion to tbe fact that administra
tors and guardians have not in the
pastia all cases been required by
the Ordinary bo give proper bonds.
This is a condition that should be
carefully gone into by the proper
authorities and steps taken to pre
vent such oases in the future.
The Comity School Commissio
ner’s books wore checked and ap
proved by the State Auditor on
Maic i 2nd, 1922. In 1921 Houston
County maintained 16 white
schools, including Perry and Fort
Valley, for eight mouths, with nn
onrol'ment of 2011 and with nn
average attendance of 1586, em-
Gloying 63 teachers, and running
1) trucks; and maintained 37 ne
gro schools for 6 months with an
enrollment of 3585, averaging 2,-
082 and employing 73 teachers.
We recommend that the attention
of the people of Houston County
be called to the extreme low aver
age attendance. The attention of
the Grand Jury has boon called to
the fact that in some sections of
the Connty, school trucks are be
ing driven by small boys under
ago. This is in violation of the
law and is dangerous, and the au
thorities should see to it that it bo
stopped as once.
We have inspected the County
Jail and find thirty prisoners there
and one in Pulaski County Jail.
Tbe sanitay condition of the jail
is good, we find the roof of the
jail, the gutters around the jail
1 and the iron cage inside badly in
need o f repair. We recommend that
these be repaired as soon as pos
sible.
Wo find the roof of the court
house has a few leaks and that
the gutters here also need repair.
We recommend that same be done
rs early as practical.
We find all the houses at the
poor farm in good repair. Tbe land
is in proper condition for plant
ing. We find two mules, one two
horse wagon and all necessary
farm tools in good repair. We find
two sires and eleven shoats. We
find that four paupers are being
cared for by the county and seem
to be well provided for. We find
three able bodied convicts and
one woman convict which seems to
us that this is double the amount
of labor to take care of the farm.
We have investigated the con
dition of the threo convict camps
located near Ft, Valley, Hender
son and Wetlston. We find these

The story of the love and adventures of an Arabian Sheik
and a beautiful white girl, on the arid, sand-swept waste
