Tho criminal week of the Hous
ton county city court began Mon
day morning at Perry, with Judge
A. C. Riley, presiding and Ss-
licitor J- W. Bloodworth looking
out for the state’s interests.' The
oases of the state against .DeWitt
Hallman, D. D. Anderson, Cliff
Hallman and 1 Harvey Brewn, all
j of Crawford county, and accused
' of being drunk upon the public
{highway near Byron Ga. D, D.
Anderson and Cliff Hallman wore
found guilty and sentenced to six
months in the chaingang or pay a
fine of $75 each.
Cerry Mathews was found guilty
of sid ing whiskey and sentenced
to tlxe state farm for six months,
Joe Woodson was convicted of ‘the
same offense, as well as Prank
Billingslea. Frank Cook was con
victed of wife beating. Rich John
son was found guilty of simple
larceny.
The most interesting case was
that of a negro by tho name tf
Lawler Brown He created a sen
sation by announcing to tho court
that he did not need a lawyer.
ho was accused of stealing a dog.
The judge asked, “Don’t you need
a lawyerfV The negro replied,
"What fur judge, to tell about the
dog?’’ ‘Wes,” said the judge “Well
L can do that judge,” and the
case proceeded.
He conducted his own case mak
ing only a statement, Lawyer
Brown was found not guilty.

MRS. H.P. DOBBINS HOSTESS
Mrs H. P, Dobbins was the de
lightful hostess at a party Friday
night in compliment to Misses
Francos Cater and Annie Wallace
two lovely giadua.es oi the Perry
High School/ Mrs Dobbins home
was attractively decorated in the
class colors white and gold, using
quantities of whito petunias and
golden coreopsis. Proms were the
order of the evening, and Misses
Suo Roges, Myrl Meyer, ICathrine
Crowell and Mary Sbellie Wallace
served punch to the promenadors
from a bowl nestling amid quanti
ties of vari—colored sweet peas,
Class flower. Later a delightful
iced course was served. About
forty guests were present. X
MRS EFFIE MAY HUFF DEAD
MUSIC RECITAL NOTICE.
MrsEffio.Mae Huff wife of J.
II. Huff died at her home here
last Thursday morning after an
illness o f over a month. Her death
occurred on her 23rd birthday.
She leaves a bereaved young
husband and two infant children,
Ehviu Pershing 3 and Welina
Kathryn 15 months old. She is also
survived by her father W A
Bonner of Carralllon, one sister
Mrs Oiofforcl Bell and a half sister
and- brother Miss Nellie Maud
Bonner and J C Bouuer of
Carrollton.
Funeral services were conduct
ed at tho Baptist church of which
she was a consistent member, Rev
K Read officiating Burial was
at Evergreen cemetery Friday
morning.
The untimely death of Mrs
Huff is a unusually sad one aud
tho bereaved husband and mother
less young children have the
heart felt sympathy of scores of
friends here
