•this effect was made by J. E. Conwell,
(president of the Georgia Cotton Grow*
ers Co-operative Association, after a
meeting of representatives of three
state organizations.
I Mr. Howard is recognized as one
of the outstanding cotton men of the
South. For almost a quarter of a
.•century he has been identified with
the cotton industry and the firm of In
man, Howard & Inman, with which he
dias been affiliated for years, has han*
•died as high as 300,000 bales in a
twelve-month.
As sales manager for the cotton
growers’ associations of Georgia, Ala
bama and North Carolina, he will sell,
."with the approval of the directors of
ithose organizations, the cotton of
more than 60,000 producing members,
.representing more than 800,000 bales
of cotton. This estimated production
fts based, on the 1920 production for. the
three states mentioned.
The entire sales machinery will be

. Washington, D. C.—Following the re
ceipt of telegrams from Georgia that
there Is a shortage in the supply of
calcium arsenate to fight the boll wee
vil and that Georgia farmers are alarm
ed over the situation, Senator William
J. Harris conferred recently with Dr.
L. C. Howard, chief of the bureau of en
tomology, and other ofioials of the fed
eral department of agriculture. These
officials furnished Senator Harris with
the names and addresses of prominent
dealers in calcium arsenate and he
is In telegraphic communication with
them regarding the available, supply,
the terms, and when it could be deliv
ered.

the strike in Atlanta of the Federated
Shopcraft unions. Superintendent
Waits shot at a man whom, he said,
jumped on the running board of his au
tomobile, after a group of strikers had
tried to stop his car as he was leaving
the railroad yardB. This man, he as
serts, hit him with an axe handle and
another man jumped on the bumber of
his automobile, aB he tried to thread
his way between the strikers gathered
in the road.

known attorney of Birmingham, Ala.,
was released under a temporary bond
of $10,000 by Federal Judge Samuel H.
Sibley v of the northern district of Geor
