as the result of the recent successful
experiments with • motorless gliders,
Glen II. Martin, pioneer aviator and

lieves that within a few years, as the

principle, small purring planes in large

Putnam Has Successful Swine Sale
; Eatonton.—Putnam county held her
first hog sale recently under direction
of Roy Rodgers, county farm demon
stration agent. Purchasers were in
evidence from all over Georgia. Out
of 87 hogs, 75 graded No. 1 there was
a carload of hogs and the average
price was $8.83 per 100 pounds. The
entire lot was purchased by an At
lanta firm. Every store In town had
a special sale on and the general opin
ion whs that it was a great benefit
to the trade. In the afternoon T. J.
Shackleford addressed a large crowd.

Thomasville.—South Georgia looks
almost like old times, with fields white
with cotton and the pickers gathering
in the fleecy staple. That more cot
ton will be made in South Georgia
than has been the case since the inva
sion of the boll weevil has been proph
esied for some time and, as the crop
opens, this forecast is being confirmed.
While the acreage in ThomaB county
is far below tho old time‘average, yet
it is larger than In some years, end
the yield is suprising even to the own
ers.

Gersfeld, Germany.—Herr Hentzen,
a student flier of the Hanover technical
school, in the glider tests on the
Rhoen mountains, established a new
glider record by remaining in the air
two hours and ten seconds.. Heiitzen
used the Bingle-deck sail plane In which
another student named Matetens pre
viously had made a flight of 66 min
utes. He mounted to a height of 20t>
meters, which he maintained through
out his uniform flight,* crusing with a
wind velocity of from seven fo; nine
miles.

Green Must 8erve For Killing
Tifton.—The Georgia supreme court
has affirmed the verdict in Tift su
perior court in the case of John M.
S. Green, convicted of murder at the
J^ly term, 1921, and, sentenced to life
imprisonment. Mr. Green was a prom
inent farmer living in the northwest
ern part of Tift county. On the first
Sunday in July, 1921, he shot anti
killed his neighbor, Daniei Sutton, a
man of equal prominence, belonging to
one of the pioneer families of this
section. . -
Beginning with May, all telephone bills will be
- mailed and must be paid on or before the 10th of
the month. No waiting after the 10th as the Long

Record Flight Made By Carrier Bird
Atlanta.—A record flight for a seven-
months-old carrier pigeon was estab
lished when “Blue Demon,” a register
ed bird belonging to John L, Ryan of
the Atlanta Homing Pigeon club, flew
from Sparta to Atlanta, a distance of
132 miles, in 9.34 hours, according to
Mr. Ryan. The pigeon was released in
Sparta at seven o’clock .in the morning
