The Houston and Macon Coun
ty gel-to gether barbecue at Mar-
shallville Iasi Friday was an event
which will probly never be for
gotten by thousands of Georgians
present, for it was indeed an epoch
in tho history, nob only of Macon
aucl douston but in the whole
sla to.
It was a big crowd, estimated at
8000, from Macon and Houston
counties and hundreds of their
friends from all sections of the
state, gathered there, not so much
to celebrate the recent victory but
to take part In a “feast of fellow
ship” With their friends and neigh
bors and with their recent oppon
ents as well.
| A special program had been ar
ranged in which short addresses
were delivered by tho leadeis in
the new county light and others
prominent in Houston and Macon
counties and elsewhere-
Col. Sam A. Nuun delivered the
address of welcome for Houston
county; Miss Mollie McKenzie
welcomed the guests for Marshall
ville.
Mrs. J. E- Hays of Montezuma,
President of the Georgia Federa
tion of Womens’ Chib, delivered a
short addiv ss emphasizing the fact
that the women lnuLplayed an im
portant part in tho rocenb light.
Other speakers were Col. Jule Fel-
tan, Col- John Guerry and Repre
sentative Gilbert Robertson and
Judge Guerry of Montezuma, Col.
ijf P. Duncan and Mrs G. C. Nunn
of Perry and W. T. Auderson of
Macon. A big band furnished
music for the occasion.
Never was a event of such magni
tude handled better. Fellowship
and good will prevailed- There was
not tho slighest evidence of dis
order in all the vast crowd.
To Marshallville who is a special
sense was the hostess is duo special
commendation. While the people
of Macon and Houston counties
shared equally the expense and
labor ot the occasion the local
people of Marshallville contribut
ed in u larger measure to the
success of the occasion possible
than any others.
The barbecue of finest kind was
there and the brunsvrick stew,
coffee, bread, pickle and all the
fexiuft in quanties, plenty for every
body and more besides.
Yes indeed wo will all remem
ber the big get-fco-gether barbecue
at Marshallvill for many a day to
come.
