the present term.
On the 4th of March, tho be
ginning of I he new term, there
will be in the new Congiess,House
and Senate progressive republicans
who will hold the balance of pow
er.
Already lines are being arrang-
aml it is not unlikely that Hard
ing and Cox will again be oppos
ing candidates in the next primary
campaign.
There will bo more than enough
democrats in the willing line, and
it is quite probable that tho pro
gressive republicans will not inarch
in tho Harding procession.
It is also practically certain that
Ex-President Wilson will be in
the democratic cpuncil and that
the League of Nations will be
much talked about and muoh con
sidered.
This being true, it is not assur
ed that President Harding will bo
able to oontrol I ho political legis
lation of the new Congress,.
With March 4t.h will bogin ;
practically,in the open active poli
tics that will shape and control
tho next presidential campaign.
Therefore the next four weeks
will be a critical period for the re
public anal m inistration.
Whatever the republicans loso
then will probably lemain lost.

Federal ownership of railroads
is being talked about of “Progres
sive” leading politicians and labor
union officials. To counteract that
movement, the officials of the lead
ing railroad systems have elaborat
ed a plan to hold a liational con
vention or conference of railroad
men at a flate in May soon to be
named. This meeting of railway
men, it is contemplated, will ar
range for a complete reorganiza
tion of railway operation. The
direct purpose of this meeting is to
head off government ownership
talk, but to bring about improve
ment and betterment on all lines
and systems.
