WAR DEBTS
When Gesmany ackonowodgod
defeat in tho late world war an ar
imatiee with the allies was arraing-
©d. Following the armistice there
was u League of Nations compact
and a treaty between the combat
ant nations, theitwo to be made
joint forces to Settle economic af
fairs.
The reparations from Germany
to Franc, to, compensate for the
tremendous damage by the war
aggiegated billions of dollars.
Though not oeigmally intended
or oxpected, the Unitqd States of
America entered that war as one
associated nation with Franco and
England and the other nllies.
This began the making of tre
mendous debts by all the large na
tions including lending money as
well as munitions and all needed
war supplies.
Now it transpires that those war
debts are being very much com
plicated by the politics being in
jected by each of tho debtor and
creditor nations.
Tho prime incident in this con
nection is that though Great Brlu-
ttin and tho United States have
agreed upon the terms of payment
This matter may bo prevented by
tho fact that the same thing with
other nations must be done.
The politicians say Franco must
ibo paid else that, nation cannot
pay.
So it goes, unless tho bebts are
paid, there will , not come tho
•ability to sell the products neoded
from nations needed to be sold.
The Germans cannot pay unless
the products of that country can
be sold. This applies to all and
©conofnic conditions arc greatly
disarranged.
Each creditor nation demands
payment, but national politics has
so magnified economic conditions
that war and war debts threatens
•actual bankruptcy to many na
tions.

Commapder-in-Chief of the French

The last of the United Stales
soldiers of the army of occupation
in Germany reached Savannah last
Friday. There were 62 German

.yioB President Cooledge was in
Atlanta last Sunday. At Tuske-
gee, Ala., he was the Lincoln Day
orator, establishing formerly the
national military hospital for dis
abled negro soldiers.
All arrangements were made for
the permanent organization and
business equipment,.
Probably the most important
speiph in the initial meeting was
that of Aaron Sapio, the noted ex
pert on co operative marketing, an
organizer of tho noted California
plan. j
There were also present officials
of two state peanu growers apsocla
tions, President of the Georgia
State College of Agriculture, the
Slate Commissioner of Agriculture
and other experts in practical ag
riculture.
Though inaugurated near the
southern limit of Georgia, the
foundation is laid for exceedingly
rapid 'growth to cover not only
south Georgia but the state. This
was a most auspicious beginning
and will be sure to win if the mem
berslceep in mind the true mean
ing of co-operation.
Selling peanuts is not new in Geor
giabut the business in thestatehas
been exceedingly inoreae in quani-
ty sold and distance transported.
Each producer has originally been
restricted to his own efforts. With
co-operation from neighbor farm
ers, oven, or .nearby merchants,
now the stakes are set to make a
new market that aspires to cover
©von more than one stale.
This article was not begun more
ly to give publicity to a south
Georgia community to lift them
selves out of tho business ruts, but
thoroughly enlist co-operaton
menfc in one of the-best agricultu-,
ralsections in the county and state.
In thus making a new market
for peanuts Lhejnlluence will pure
ly ektend business from Maine to
Florida and from California to
Carolina. There is no purpose
here to exploit specifically the sale
of peanuts, but impress the fact
that co-operation will create a new
market whenever a really good and
needed product is presented.
All the citrus fruits, the stand
ard garden and .farm products
need a dependable market "before
they could go much on the road to
business success.
As a market had to be’ made for
each product as it “came out” so,
must a market be maintained for
each product.
There are products now en
trenched in a dependable mai'kel
with certain ready sale.. Co
operation secured the desired mar
ket and money is coining this Way.
