George Sutton and Harry Peter
son, white men, said to be from
Albany. N. i., are in the county
jail charged with the theft of a
watch found together with other
numerous pieces ef valuable jewel
ry in their possession^ by Macon
dotPclives last week.
Sometime last week a valuable
watch was stolen from the room of
Mr. Geo. B. Wells at the Wells
Hotel. Saturday Mr, Wells went
to Macon to solicit the aid of the
police thinking that the thief
might pawn the watch there. The
remarkable part Of the story is
that be did recover the, watch and
the suspects were caught.
After describing the, watch, de
tectives at Macon headquarters
informed Mr, Wells that they had
his watch as well as the men in
whoso possession it was found,
they having been arrested oh sus
picion when they displayed jewel
ry at a pawn shop several
days before. They claim they
bought the watch from a negro at
Perry. The prisoners were tam
ed over to Sheriff Chapman Satur-
The recovery of the lost watch
calls to mind a similar incident
which seems to indicate that Mr.
Wells either has remarkable pow
er for recovering stolen 1 property
or is very lucky along that line to
say the least of it.
About two years ago ho lost a
Dodge automobile. After tracing
tbe car in Florida for many days
he returned libme in dispaiir. Sev
eral weeks later the car was drlv-
on.back to Perry by a party who
bought it; in Florida was rScognlz*
bd and recovered by him at a
spot less than a hundred yards
from which it had been stolen.
