OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO branches in all the principal cities HOUSTON IN THE RING An articlo under the heading of “Karra Development” was repro duced on the editorial page of the Homo Journal from the Atlanta- Oonstitution. This articlo was based upon a statement from the Macon Cham ber of Commerce had put on a de» , termtned drive for Middlo Geor gia development. In this connection it was stated ♦ith authority that “the state of Georgia at largs spends annually $75,000,000 of food and food pro- duct* which are and Bhould be produced at homo. M The campaign commended for farm betterment embraces the en tire area of Houston county and our best and most progressive farmers and all business mon should be in the ring with all their best qualities and most de termined energy. The Chamber of Commerce pro poses that in a circle of sixty miles the farmers can and should pro duce all produots they need and moro. The laud and farmers of Hous* ton county are equal to the best in the state. But, they are far from being up to date to the ca pacity of their production- We dare say that any high-grade farmer in Houston couuty would be offended should it be Baid pub licly that he is backward in farm management and agricu ltural production. is not a guess that our farm ers are buying each year many needed produots that can and should grow on their own fawns. There are several counties in Georgia whose fanners have adopt ed the oo-operative plan, includ ing merchants and banks- With a specified plan they have worked out of the debtor class, and are now selling much more than they buy. Houston could and should do likewise. At least some of the most progressive fanners in this county should meet together aud determiue to make Houston coun ty the leading county in Georgia. Let them at once get in touch tMth the plan adopted by the Mn- con Chamber of Commerce. .The Horae Journal will help on the publicity plan, if requested.
