—There are five new teachers of
the Perry High School who began
their work with tho beginning of
the term Monday: they are Mr.

Association addressed members of
the association at the Court
House, explaining the torms of
the agreement and giving in-
jBtruolion as to marketing tho crop
during the season. About 100
fanners were present.
Houston County was not orga
nized until this year, but has
gained many members during the
past few months since an in
ference campaign was inaugurated.
Membership in Georgia has
increased from 13000 last year to
40000 up to the present time and
is now strong enough to largely
control the cotton market for tho
benefit of the growers- Members of
the association in the cotton grow
ing states received from 30 to 40
dollars a bale more for their cot
ton than non members, it is
claimed by the association.
ENTERTAIN WITH BARBECUE
Mr and Mrs. Jerome Thompson
were hosts at a delightful barbe
cue given for their friends and
neighbors at their country home
on last Saturday.
Delightful barbecue, brunswick
etew, coffee and iced tea wore serv
ed on the lawn.
The gracious hospitality of Mr.
and Mrs Thompson and the boun
teous repast was thoroughly en
joyed by the seventy five or more
guests present;
PERRY HIGH SCHOOL OPENING
With approprate exercises the
Perry High School opened for the
new term on last Monday morn;
ing.
A union service at the Metho
dist church Sunday evening, in
which the ministers of the three
churches of Perry and the Super
intendent of the school took part
was in the nature of a get to
gether meeting and the spirit of
Christian co-operation for the good
of school was manifested at this
meeting.
The opening exercises
were held at the Baptist church
Monday morning at 9 o'clock and
waB attended by a large number
of parents, patrons and others
interested in the success of our
sehool.
Superintendent J. M. Gooden,
following a short address, intro
duced each member of the faculty
who in turn made short talks.
Others who address the school
were Rev. W. K. Dennis of the
Methodist church, Rev. W H Lord
of the Baptist church and Mrs.
Geo. C Nunn.
The Perry sohool begins the
new term under a competent
corps of teachers, personally
equipped to do good work.
With the helpful co-operation of
people of Perry and this section,
a better sohool building and
equipment in keeping with the
educational needs of the com
munity is the goal to be sought
during the present scholastic
year,
The first day attendences was
slightly over 300 pupils, but is
expected to reach 350 by the end
of tho week,

The Houstou County Public
Schools will opeu for the new year
on Monday, September 24th. With
one or two exceptibus, where ad
ditional to ache re have been found
necessary, a complete corps of
teachers have already been elected.
Provisions have been made l!o
take care of the pupils in all parts
of the county, some of the smaller
.sohoois having already been con
solidated with larger schools.
PATHFINDER CAR COMING
The official pathfinder oar of the
Atlanta Constitution will soon
visit Perry on its annual pilgri
mage to Florida to determine the
best roads to be used for fall and
winter travel.
For four years The Constitution
has conducted an automobile road
information bureau, providing free
maps and logs to the various
points within several hundred
miles of Atlanta.
The routes are all driven by the
Constitution Pat h fi n d e r, A.c
curate logs, condition report and
maps are compiled and printed in
their big Sunday additions and
then reprinted in folder form for
free distribution.
During the past year, according
to a statement made by officials of
the Constitution, more than six
thousand persons came through
their bureau for information on
routes to and from Florida.
The fact that Georgia's biggest
morning daily has appropriated a
big sum of money to carry on this
work Vindicative of the untold
advantages of securing automobile
tourists. The 1924 route folder
to Florida will, according to ad
vance reports, show our route as
oue of the two main routes and
will contain some valuable publi
city for Perry.
CITY COURT IN SESSIGN
The September term of Houston
City Court convened Monday
morning J udge A C Riley officiat
ing.
There were no trials on Monday
the day being largely taken np
with prelemiuary work and the
setting for trial the large number
of civil cases on the docket. On
Tuesday fifteen judgements were
taken inmost of which the services
of the jury was required.
On Wednesday the case of R L
Marchman against the Central of
Georgia Railway was in progress.
In this case Marchman is seeking
to recover from the railroad claim
ing that the railroad is respon
sible for. the loss of his ginnery
here two years ago, contending
that the ginnery was set by a
spark from the engine in passing.
On next Monday the criminal
docket will be taken up the same
jurors serving as this week. I
