from an extended visit to Florida

Monday morning realizing what a
“pretty” time they did have while

it meant anything to them.
The people of Houston county
will decide by their ballot on next
Wednesday, December 5th,wheth
er the City Court will be abolish
ed and four terms of Superior
Court established ins tead, or
whether the courts will be main
tained and oporated as they are at
present. This is not a question
on which partisan lines should be
drawn but a question on which the
best interests of the county and
the tax payers should be consider
ed first. After securing all infor
mation possible on the subject it
is hoped that the people of the
county will vote on the question
in that spirit.

One of the most enjoyable par
ties of this mouth was the bridge
party whieh Mrs. Lee M Paul, Jr.
gave at her home in honor of her
sister, Miss Queen Holden of Ath
ens.
Antumn leaves and chrysanthe
mums were arranged artistically
in bowls and baskets.
Mrs. Jesse Davis won top score
and was presented silk hose. Mrs.
S L Norwood, Jr., won the conso
lation prize. Delicious refresh'
ments were served.

art Chapter, Daughters of the
American Revolution, permit me

jects of this great organization aro
patriotic, historic and educational.
This chapter has for seven years*
given one local scholarship to the
Perry High School at cost of
815.00 por year, now offers $5.00
in gold to the pupil making tho
best mark in American history.
Recently placed ahandsome
American flag in the colored
school in New Hope whore nearly
200 pupils are enrolled, and con
spicuously placed the code where
school can study it*
Our November meeting was
held at the home of Mrs J P Eth
ridge. In the absence of our
Regent Mrs. L F Cater our 2nd
vice, Mrs J Alva Davis had charge
of the meeting. Several worth
while papers were read as a social
feature. After all business was
over, meeting adjourned to meet
in December at the home of Mrs
S P Crowell.

store and hope all members will
be present.
Mrs. Walter Grace, our State
Superintendent, will be with us
also Mrs. Walter Lemar and we
hope Mrs. Frank Harold, now
President General of the U D O.
Mrs. Grace has hstd the pleasure
of nominating two President Gen
erals and we are sure her talk
about the convention at Washing
ton will be very interesting. X
BRIDE AND GROOM RETORN
CITY COURT ADJOURNS
Houston City Court completed
its regular November l e r m
Wedhes,dey after being is session,
three days last week and three
days this week'.
A number of civil cases and sev
eral misdemeanor oases were-tried
Monday and Tuesday. The court
convened Wednesday morning for
the purpose of calling the appear
ance docket.
On Monday next the court will
again be in session to take judge
ments in a number of casos.
Mr. and Mrs. H K Covington
returned from their bridal tour
to Bennettsville, S. C., to Perry
last Friday and will make this
their home.
A hearty welcome awaited their
home coming. She, as Miss Matt
Tbarpe numbers her friends by all
who know her and are glad her
marriage does not take her from
her home and friends, only adds
one other worthy citizen to our
town, that of her husband who
comes here highly endorsed. We
are glad to give him a cordial
greeting and glad to extend to
them congratulations. X
A SURPRISE TEA
Tuesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs J P Cooper, the Baptist
Missionary Society sponsored a
“Surprise Tea” complimenting
Mrs Matt Tbarpe Covington who
so recently returned to Perry
from her bridal trip to Bennetts
ville S. C. The house was lovely
in every detail and refreshments,
suited to the taste of the most
fastidious. Only the few wedding
[friends together with the mission
ary society were present.
The gift to the bride was ap
preciated not so much for its in-
trusic value as that it spoke in
love tones from heart to. heart
and was a token of high esteem in
which Miss Matt is held by her
friends. X
