PERRY, HOUSTON COUNTY, tii., THURSDAY, DECBMBER 25, 1924 No. 25 TRAIN HITS MULE HERD KILLING 17 Pixie Flyer Plows Way Through Flock Of 75 Animals At Echeconnee Crossing The northbound Dixie Flyer Sunday morning plowed it? way through a herd of sevonty-five mules and horses at the Eche connee crossing, Central of Geor gia Railway and the Dixie High way. Sixteen mule* and one horse were killed. The train was not derailed, but it was delayed a shori time. The animals wore ownod by the J. L. Wallace Construction Com pany, of Norman Park, which has the contract for building the high way from Echeconaee toward Perry. The seventy-five animals were kept in a corral nearly a quarter of a mile from the scene of the accident, but in some way thev broke out during the night and ( strayed onto the railroad traek. The Dixie Flyer was coming along at top speed Engineer W. G. Dumaus saw the animals on the track ahead. He tried to stop, but could only check the speed of the train h little. The animals were badly mangled. The weight of the all-steel train probably was re sponsible for keeping i' 4' ' rails. The conductor on t was YV. H. Mabry. ? The newly organized Oivitan Club of Perry formally received its charier last Thursday eveniuf at the Court House amid holiday festve scenes scarcely ever equaled here. M i r th aud good fel lowship prevailed throughout the ! festivities and the splendid pro gram rendered by M aeon Civitans and Perry entertainers. The presentation speech was made by McKibben Lane, presi dent of the Macon club, in which he said that a charter provided the right to exist and function and that no organization had the right to exist unless it gave its efforts to the community. Sam A. Nunu, president of the newly organized club, accepted the charter saying that through the bonds of the personnel's of the two clubs the Perryites decided ou the Civitans as the civic club that could do most for the community, Mr. Nuqu reviewed the relations of Macon and Perry in which ho pointed out the many prominent personages this little city had con tributed to the larger one. the program.
