ACQUIRES FORD AGENCY
Tho Muse Motor Company,
headed by Mr. O. ii. Muse, has ac
quired t lie Ford Agency and Ga
rage recently operated by Mr. A.
M. Anderson, and last week active
ly took charge of the business.
The new firm lias the garage,
show rooms and filling station un

automobile anh accessory stock of
the Anderson estale
The business will be operated
with th<? continued purpose of
serving ttie roods of the public
for Ford products and s?rvice in
this territory.
Mr. Pa^chuel Muse will be asso
ciated with his father in the
operation of the business.
BARBECUE AT FESTIVAL TO BE
GIGANTIC AFFAIR
Fort Valley is getting ready for
the Third Annual peach Blossom
Festival which will be held March
ll)tli-20th. Fully sixty thousand
visitors are expected to attend the
two-day celebration, and one of
the main concerns of the little city
in peach County is to feed these
visitors.
Already reservations for tickets
are pouring in from all over the
country, and it is apparent that
all tickets for both presentations
of the gorgeous pageant "The
Trail of Pink petals'' will be sold
out before the Festival dates
arrive. That all visitors may have
an opportunity to take in all the
festivities, the same program for
entire Festival will be followed
each day,the program presented on
Thursday being repeated on Friday.
The barbecue which will be
served both days will be a'gigantic
affair-more than 40,000 pounds of
meat having been purchased for
this feature of the celebration.
One of the main features of the
program will be the drills of the
6th Calvalry from Fort Oglethorpe
Georgia, consisting of forty mount
ed men, besides the band. This
will be one of the many item? of
free entertainment furnished all
visitors.

MRS. A. S. CLARK, JR., DIES
On the morning of Feb., 15th,
Mrs. A. S. Chirk, Jr., died at the
home of her sister, Mrs. A. J>.
Howard, Poach County after an
illness of two weeks. The twin
daughter Janice, died on the way
to the Macon hospital and was
buried in her mother's arms. The
other twin, Janttte, is still ill but
hospital authorities consider her
condition favorable. The babips
were five months old.
Mrs. Clark Tea ves her husband
and five children to mourn her loss
besides a large family connection.
The interment was in the Lisonby

COUNTY TREASURER
? By a very substantial majority
Mr. James R. Hunt was elected
Treasurer of Houston County at
the special election held last
Thursday, February 19. With
three other candidates in the race
Mr. Hunt received a plurality as
well as a majority of votes cast in
the county, receiving449 votes out
of a total vote of 775.
The new Treasurer is elected to
till the unexpired term of the laie
A. M. Anderson and will assume
i the duties of the office just as soon
! as he receives his commission
! from the Governor and is sworn in.

At the last meeting of the Civi
tans the club had as their gHests
Mr. and Mrs J. B. Guerry and Mr
Adams of Montezuma. Mr. Guer
ry gave a very interesting talk on
Montezuma's experience iu build
ing an indoor court. He said it
should be on or very near the
school ground.
The attendance prize was given
by Mr. Adams. It proved to be
a loaf of bread for each one

the daughter of Mr and Mrs. W.
A. Hartley, of Fort Valley, to Mr.
Edward Carson, of Grovania, son
of Mr. and Mrs, J. E. Carswell,
the wedding having taken place
February l5at. the home of the
bride's parents. Rev. Mr- Hunt, of
Perry, officiating. Mr. and Mrs.
Carswell will be at home with the
groom's parents in Grovania.

DEATH OF JOSEPH S. VINSON
Joseph S. Vinson, one of the
oldest and best known citizens of
Houston County, died at his home
near Wellston at 1:35 Wednesday
afternoon February 18.
He was the son of James and
Fiances Vinson, born July 30,
1844 in Houston County. He en
tered the Confederate army at the
early age of 1(5 as a member of
the Uth Georgia Regiment o f
volunteers, Colquitts brigade and
Stonewall Jackson's division. He
was shot Lbrii both legs at the
battle of Seven pines, and after
about G months in the hospital
and at hotne lie returned to the
Virginia Army. Later because of
his wounds and a desire to be with
his brothers. Dan and Zack he was
transferred to company (I 8th
Georgia Calvary, and served,
throughout the remainder of the,
war.
He wat during his long lite an

married to Julia K. Hason, daugh
ter of Frances and Jacob Bason.
Mr. Vinson was for a few years
conductor on the Brunswick and
Albany K. It. H" was I ho first ex
press agent of this road at Albany
Ga- He was later conductor on the
j Southern running between Macon

of these few years railroading and
a fow years as merchant in Macon
he spent his long life on his farm
in Houston County.
He was for several years Chair
man of the Loral Fanners Union
and later Chairman of the County
Association, he was noted as a
great reader and brilliant con
versalionaJist, remembering in de
tail almost all he road, and was
able until a few days before his
death to recount vividly incidents
occurring in his early youth. Be
cause of his wonderful memory and
hi? rare fund of jokes and stories
he was always a welcome guest on
social occasions.
He was well known throughout
Houston, Bibb, Dooly, peach and
other surrounding counties and
possibly knew more people by
given name than any man in his
county. 1
He bad been a Mason for 53j
years and was the oldest member
in his local order.
lie was hurried at the family
cemetery near Wellston, with Ma
senic Honors.
lie is survived by his wife, two
sons, John W. Vinson, of Macon,
Dr. Curtis I). Vinson, of Atlanta,
one nephew. T. I). Vinson, Taroon
Springs, Kla., two brothers, .James
Carroll, Koif, Iowa, Patrick Car
roll, Cedar Itapida, Iowa and one
sister, Ella Bclnap, Cedar Uapids,
