PERRY, HOUSTON COUNTY, OA.., THURSDAY, APRIL 16. 1925 No. 16 GRAND JURY IN SESSION, COURT AOJURNS UNTIL APR. 27 The Houston Superior Court assembled here Monday, but ow ing to the absence of Solicitor Garrett adjourned until Monday April 27th. when the April Term will be resumed. A number of criminal cases, as well as civil Cases left over from the first week of Court will be taken up -it that time. The Grand Jury was in session Thursday to resume their session, Solicitor General Garrett being present to present the warrants there warrents for consideration, he having sufficiently recovered from illness to permit his presence here. Thirty five warrants have been prepared for the Grand Jury's consideration. Jurors drawn for the criminal session will serve the Court during its adjourned session of April 27th. MRS. R. L. .BAIRD DIES AT GROVANIA Mrs. Sallie Baird, age 50, wife of ft. L. Baird died at her home at Grovania last Thursday April 9th after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 10 o'clock Friday morning, Rev. H. K. McGregor of the Methodist Charch officiating. The body was carried to Macon and laid to rest in Rose Hill ceme tery there Friday afternoon. Mrs. Baird, who beforo her marriage was Miss Sallie Kemtz.was born and reared in Houston Coun ty. She was prominently identified with the Church and social life of her community taking an active part in the work of the Methodist Church of which she has been a member practically all her life. She is survived by a devoted fcusband Ihree sons and two daugh ters. Messrs Robert, Layman and BUiott Baird of Macon, Miss Ireue Baird of Grovania and Mrs. C. C. B TO CELEBRATE OPENING NEW SCHOOL The Parent-Teacher Association is arranging a May festival for the first day of May, to celebrate the formal opening of the new school building. A day of pleasure and entertain ment la planned. Among other things will be the crowning of the May Queen, May pole dances dances of the flowers, elves, rabbits and grasshoppers, and athletic stunts by the boy?. This should be an occasion of great joy to all who aro interested in the school and community aud every one is invited to come, bringing with them a lunch. CONVENTION IN SESSION AT MACON The twelfth annual convention of the Georgia division of the National Congress of Parent and Teacher is in session in Macon this week, the opening session he* ing on Tuesday afternoon. The National President Mrs. A. F, Reeve is present , and ad d ressed thecon vention.Georgiafeels that she has an especial claim on Mrs. Reeve, because her great uncle,Abraham Baldwin, a Geor gia man, the first president and founder of the University of Geor gia. He also was the senator from Georgia in the First Congress and the man who oast the deciding vote for the Constitution. Other well known speakers, in terested in various forms of child welfare work, are present. Many pleasant social affairs have been given for the entertain-! ment aud pleasure of the guests.| Among those attending from Perry are Miss Mary Lee Greene, Mrs. P. H, Skellie, Mrs. L. F. Cater, Mrs. G. ?. Nunn, Mrs. W, L. Orr and Mrs. J. P. Cooper. R. H. CONNELL DEAD R. H, Connell, 55. died at his home near here Monday afternoon and was buried in Evergreen Cene tery Tuesday morniDg. He is sur vived by his wife; one daughter. Mrs. John Amerson, of Atlanta; one brother, W. E. Connel), of Perry, and two sisters. Miss Mamie Conuell and Mrs. G. P. Parks, of Byromville, Oa.. and several nephews and nieces in different partsof the Slate. He was original-, ly from Reynolds, Ga., and has been a resident of Houston for about thirty-five years. NEW OWNER OF TELEPHONE PliNT KILLS SELF H. A. Bond, recent purehae?r of the Houston Telephoue Plant at Perry she t himself at his home at Roberta early last Friday. He died a few hours later. Mr. Bond was a well known and prosperous business man of Ro berta aud was known to a number of business men here. He was the owner of the telephone plant at Reynolds and Culloden besides the one at Perry. Ill health and busi ness worry is said to have been the cause of his aot, although financial ly he is said to have been iu good shape. It is not known what disposition will be made of the telephone plant but it is understood for the present it will be operated as be fore under local management as here to-fore but under direction of the administrator of the estate. Announcements will be made later and the public will be invit ed to inspect this new plant .of which we will all be proud. BARFIELD'S STORE AGAIN BURGLARIZED Fer the second time since Jan uary 1st the store and market of B- P. Barfield & Co. was burglariz ed last Tuesday night. The thieves went in at the back door, effecting the entrance by prizing out a large staple with which the door was barred. An ax with which the breaking was done was found in market. The amount of groceries and other things taken is not definitely known but several pounds o f meat, an overcoat and a watch were missing from the market Tuesday morning. MRS. JOKES' PICTURES ON SHOW IN ATLANTA Mrs. Nell Choate Jones, daugh ter of the late James D. and Cor nelia Roquemore Choate, of Perry. Ga., a nationally known art'st of New York City, is in Atlanta for the Southern States Art League exhibition at the Baltimore Hotel. In the exhibit are three exquisite landscapes of her own. Mrs. Jones1 works to be seen here consist of ' House in Sunlight."
