HISTORIC OLD LAND MARK PASSES With the demolishing of the old Perry Hotel this week oue, of the oldest and most historic land marks of the city- passe?. After a period of approximately 75 years, during which time much local history has been made and many notables have been entertained within its portals, the career of the old building as a hotel comes to a ft end. Court House records show that the hotel lot was sold in 1840 by G. H. Rice, to General Eli Warren and on part of the lot he bnilt a law office and dwelling, and in 1850 Gen. Warren sold the other part of the lot to Christian J. Staley who built the eld hotel. In January 1852 Mr. Staley sold the property to Drury M. Cox. At tbat time the hotel was known as the Eagle Hotel. Since that time the property has passed through many hands, the more recent owrtera be ing the late J. N, Tuttle, then Major M. L. Cooper and now Mrs. Rochelle Skellie. The handsome New Hotel just opened by Mrs. Skellie replaces the old structure.
