APPROPRIATE EXERCISES
END SCHOOL YEAR
On last Sunday morniug Ihe
commencement exercises of the
Perry High School began with
{the baccalaureate sermon at the
; High School Building. (The play
that was to have been given Fri
day night was postponed.)
j The auditorium of the school was
beautifully decorated with pal ins,
ferns and cut flowers. Dr. H. D.
Johnson, pastor of First Baptist
Church of Valdosta, delivered a
most inspiring sermon, his theme
being ' Uod is able to supply all
your needs." He stressed our de
pendence upou each other in every
phase of life and especially our
dependence upon God.
Monday night was observed as
class night. Under the direction
of Miss Katharine Thomas, princi
pal of Perry High School, an
interesting p. i original program
was present . 4 by the Seuiors.

sional much interest and en
thusiasm was manifested by the
audience.
Tuesday night the graduating
exercises took place. Twenty-suveu
wore awarded diplomas, the de
livery of them being made by
Hon. J. W. Bloodworth, Pres. of
the Board of Education. The
Salutatory was said by Miss Mil
dred Evans and Valedictory by
Miss Mary Shelley Waliace. Dr.
Wm, Russell Owen, of Macon
made the literary address. His
subject was "The New Aristocracy
He said that the old aristeoracy
which asked '"Who are you?" had
passed and that the new aristror
cacy asks instead "Whatcan you
do?'' He stressed the glory of
work and achievement. Miss Rose
lyn Paul's piano solo, "Valse"
by Levitsky was well played.
The following prizes were award
ed:
(1) Five dollars in gold by the
Daughters of the American Revo
lution for the best work in His
tory to Alfred Edwards of the
Senior class
(2) Civitans gave $25 for best
essay on the subject: "Law ob
servance as a Basis of Good
Citizenship '* .

From the grammar grades and
the high school there were only
three who were neither absent nor
tardy* These were Edward Mason,
second grade;- Helen Brooks, sixth
grade; Mozelle Lord, tenth grade.
Asa fitting close to the program,
the class sang their class song,
whose words were written by Miss
Roselyn Paul.
?Misses Agnes Dean, Margaret
Cooper, and Doris Rainey who
were students at G. S. C. W.,
Milledgeville, the past year, ar
rived here Monday to spend the
summer with their respective
families.
?The first cotton blossom re
ported this season appeared last
week on the farm operated by R.
M. Logue and was bronght to this
office on June 10th.

ITEMS FROM P. T. 1
PRESIDENTS REPORT
"From several view points the
past year has been the most suc
cessful in the history of tho
organization of the Perry P. T. A.
It ranks sixth in efficiency among
the many P. T. A's in the state.
In tbo beginning of the year a
Year Rook was printed. The cover
of the Year Book was in blue and
gold, the P. T, A. colors, and on
the front cover was the oak tree,
the symbol of the Parent-Teacher
Association.
Cho-Cho, the famous Health
Clown, was secured for a lecture
early in the fail. Later in the year
Nutrition Week was observed,
and one of the prizes offered
throughout the state was won by
Prrry.
In putting over the election for
additional school bonds tho P. T.
A. assisted by serving lunches and
furnishing cars. \
Three maps were placed in the
school, one Bible was given, one ,
daily paper and a number of maga
zines. Three books each month have
been given as attendance prizes.
Scenery for the new school
auditorum has recently been in-<
stalled.
A party was given to the teach- |
ers at the beginning of school,
and at Christmas a Christmas tree
was given to the children. A Book
Exchange was inaugurated at the
beginning of the school year.
A May fete was arranged and
put on by the P. T. A. in which
three hundred students of the Per
ry School took part. Prizes were
given by the P. T. A. to the
winners in the athletic contests.
Music by an oroliestra, addresses
by prominent men, a bountiful
picnio dinner and the beautiful
pageant, "The Coming of Spring,1'
all contributed toward making of
this May Day the most enjoyable
and successful day our community
has known.
To accomplish this the mem
bers have worked steadily all the
year.
A lunoh stand was run during
Court week.
A Carnival was put on'at Hallo
ween.
The DeMoss Entertainers were
brought to Perry. Lunches were
sold.
A picture show was put on)
A rummage sala held.
Bulbs and extracts sold.
Total amount received during
the year $1,057.84
Amount paid out U97.58
Amount on hand $60.27
Several hundred dollars are due
on the curtains and scenery, and
other work is planned.
The cooperation of the entire
community is asked for in encouag
ing and helping to enlarge the
work of this organization whose
interest centers around the child
in our midst, "and a little child
?hall lead them."
MISS CROWELL ENTERTAINS
Miss Catharine Crowell enter
tained the member? of the Senior
Class of the Perry High School at
her home Friday evening.
The color scheme of purple and
gold was beautifully carried out
in the decorations and refresh
ments.

with puch were served.
? Mr. Vernon Wallace, whe re
ceived his A. E. degree from
Mercer University this week, is
now with his family her?.
?Mrs. Gordan Rogers, Miss Sue
Rogers, Gordan, Jr. and Catharine
Rogers, of Miami, Fla. are spend
ing this week with Mrs. N. C.
Wellons. They will be the guests
of Mr. aad Mrs. Sam Sogers next
week.
