VITAL STATISTICS LAW
UNCONSTITUTIONAL
Some weeks ago the Supreme
Court of Georgia held the Vital
Statistics Law unconstitutional.
Under this law counties were re
quired to pay out of county funds
for reporting births and deaths to
the State Bureau of Vital Statistics
an i the Supreme Court decided
that this could not be legally done.
The case as originally made was a
madam us proceeding brought by
the State Bureau of Vital Statis
tics and local registrars against
the County Commissioners of
Houston County to require them,
to pay these fees. Judge Mathews
decided against the County Com
missioners, but the Supreme Cdurt
reversed him. Wednesday the Su
preme Court refused to grant a
rehearing of the caso. This action
is final.
The Bureau of Vital Statistics
was represented by Chas H. Gar
rett, Solicitor-General, and the
County by C. E. Brunsou, County
Attorney.

CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS
BAPTIST
At the Baptist Church last Sun
day morning Brother Lord preach
ed on "Peter's Vision of the Sheet
Let Down From Heaven," that is
typicle of the Christian church.
He referred to the origin of the
sheet as let aown from Heaven as
being the sonrce from which the
Christian church came. He spoke
of the security of the sheet held
by the unseen hand. He mention
ed the boundries of the vessel as
the four corners of the earth. He
portrayed to us universality of
the Christian church as shown to
Peter in every kind of four-footed
beasts, creeping things of the
and fouls of the air being held in
the same vessel. He further str? ss
ed the purity of the God cleaned
church without regard to the na
tivity and called attention to the
| sweet fellowship between Chris
tians throughout the world. He
closed with Lhe thought of the
vessel received into Heaven and j
urged every one to become a!
Christian and apart of the Chris

Resurrection no one failed to be
received into Heaven with all

A NOTE OF APPRECIATION
An overwhelming majority of
our community is deeply gratified
at the result of the election which
said in no uncertain terms that
our section should not go backward
in the education of its children.
Surely, the hope of the country is
in the Christian and intellectual
development of our young people.
Our men worked whole-hearted
ly for the causc, our ladies put the
irresolute to shame-God bless our
noble womc'ii.
Hut in our rejoicing and self
congratulations we overlook what
is due to five <nen, working with
out fee or hope of reward. I refer
to the five member* of the Hoard
of Trustees of t he Perry Consoii
dated School District. Messrs. J.
W. Blood worth, -T. P. Cooper, C.
C. Duncan, It. K Harper and H.
P, Houser, who have borne the
burden and heat of the day with
out recompense. We do not ap
preciate them as we should. Each
of them is a hesvy taxpayer, and
they propose no heavier taxes for
os than they are willing to bear
themselves. They are working for
us, not themjeires. We Are due
hem hearty co-operation and onr
si mere thanks. X
