July theme. The little guests re
ceived favors from a fish pond
and enjoyed making bubbles.

TO BE MARRIED IN ORLANDO
Rev. and Mrs. Marshall Cole
man Dendy of Orlando, Florida,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Nancy Elizabeth, to
Dallas Marlin Ryle Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. D. M. Ryle of Perry. The
wedding will take place Septem
ber 11, at the First Presbyterian
Church of Orlando.
Miss Dendy was graduated
from the Orlando Senior High
School in 1945, and received her
Bachelor of Arts degree from
Agnes Scott College in 1949, hav
ing majored in English and
music. While at Agnes Scott she
was a member of the Folio Club,
Pi Alpha Phi, national debating
society, the Ballet Group, pianist
for the glee club, and secretary
of the Christian Association. Her
senior year she served as Fresh
man Advisor, and was chosen
for membership in Mortar Board,
national honorary society for sen
ior women. She made her debut
at the Rosalind Club Ball in
Orlando, on New Year’s Eve,
1948. After graduating from Ag
nes Scott she did special study at
Westminster Choir College in
Princeton, N. J., and since that
time has been employed as youth
director and music director at
the Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian |
Church in Charlotte, N. C.
Mr. Ryle was graduated from
Perry High School in 1944. He
attended North Georgia College
W.S.C.S. Holds
Meetings
The Methodist W. S. C. S. met
Monday at the church for the
July general meeting. The wor
ship service was led by the presi
dent, Mrs. G. W. Hicks who used
the theme, “The Great Physi
cian.”
Mrs. W. T. Middlebrooks, pro
gram chairman, presented an in
teresting program on the Philip
pines. Miss Nell Rogers discussed
the “Healing of the W. S. C. S.”
in the islands. She told of the
work of the Mary Johnson School
of Nursing. “The Need in Rural
Sections of the Philippines” was
given by Mrs. H. E. Evans, Jr.
A letter from Miss Clara How
ard of Scarritt College was read
by the secretary. The report
from the Temperance committee
was made by Mrs. N. M. Parker,
Jr.
Circle No. 1 had the most mem
bers present at this business
meeting.

Mrs. Pearl Gresham spent the
week in Atlanta visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Estes.

Atlanta were the weekend guests
of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Sisson.
Mr. and Mrs. George Cole and
daughter, Janice, of Baton Rouge,
La., and Mrs. Leila Phillips of
Pleasant Hill, La. are visiting Mr
and Mrs. F. F. Murray.
Mrs. Camilla. Williams and Mrs
Jannille Hardy of Summerville
spent last week at Myrtle Beach.

Jacksonville and Sarasota, Fla.,

PERRYANS ON FORUM
AT MERCER UNIVERSITY
Mrs. Alton Hardy and Charles
Bledsoe of Perry took part in a
forum at Mercer University last
Friday. The forum was part of a
zlass in the School of Education
at Mercer.
NANCY ELIZABETH DENDY
for a year before entering the
army for fourteen months’ serv
ice. Upon his release from the
army he attended the Georgia
Institute of Technology, receiving
his Bachelor of Aeronautical En
gineering degree in 1949, and his
Master of Science degree in 1950.
While at Georgia Tech he was a
' member of Alpha Tau Omega
social fraternity. He is now asso
ciated with Consolidated Vultee
Aircraft Corporation in Fort
Worth, Texas.

Hold Meetings
At Perry Hotel
The Now Perry Hotel’s reputa
tion for good food is well known
in Middle Georgia—as well as
from coast to coast—as shown in
two dinner meetings they had
last week.
The Hawkinsville Rotary Club
had a ladies’ night affair on
Thursday night. The next night,
the Hawkinsville Lions Club has
a ladies’ night program at the
New Perry Hotel.
Many Middle Georgia organi
zations, businesses and small
groups avail themselves of Per
ry’s fine food and hospitality as

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. David Lawrence
Low of Aiken, S. C. announce the
birth of a son Tuesday, June 26.
Mrs. Low is the former Miss
Eleanor Boterweg of Perry. Mr.
and Mrs. Low have two other
sons, Bobby and Tommy Low.
Mrs. Cora Boterweg who visited
in Perry last week is now visit
ing the Lows.

SMOAK HOME AND LOTS
Dr. A. G. Hendrick has pur
chased the old Smoak Home on
Macon Street from Jack A. Mar
shall of Philadelphia, Pa. Dr.
Hendrick also bought 14 other
lots adjoining the lot on which
the two-story frame house stands.
RAIN, BUT NOT WIND,
WAS “ORDERED”
To the many readers who have
noted the flailing power of our
last week’s classified ad for
“about two inches of rain,” we
hasten to disclaim responsibility
for the squally winds which pre
ceded and accompanied the good
rains.
A gust of wind twisted a limb
off a tree in front of the New
Perry Hotel and dented the top
of Cater Rogers’ automobile last
week. Fortunately no one was in
it and the damage was covered
by insurance, the mail carrier
said.
In Georgia this year, 119,940
boys and girls are enrolled in
j 2,292 community 4-H clubs.
PERSONAL MENTION
Master Sgt. Harmon Knight, his
wife and two children are visit
ing his mother, Mrs. J. G. Heard,
and Mr. Heard, while Sgt. Knight
is on furlough from the Army,
having been stationed at Frank
furt, Germany. Mrs. Heard and
the Knights will leave soon to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Knight at
Pensacola, Fla., for two weeks.
Miss Catherine Silcox of Roan
oke, Va., who has been visiting
her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
M. L. SilcolT, here for the past
three weeks, returned home on
Monday with her mother, Mrs.
O. B. Silcox, who also visited Mr.
and Mrs. Silcox over the week
end.

Va. and Dr. Chris Mitchell of
Tampa, Fla. spent the weekend

eridge Jr. Saturday morning
while en route to Atlanta to visit
relatives. Mr. McDonald, a for

board attorney and counsel for
the Florida Association of Regis
tration Supervisors.

left Sunday for LaMoure, North
Dakota, where they will make
their home. Mrs. Long is the
former Miss Grace Leaptrot.

days this week with her mother,
Mrs. F. M. Giles, in Dothan, Ala.
Major and Mrs. Quillian Smith
and two sons, Andy and Rbnnie,
moved Monday into a home on
Lawson Drive, coming here from
Fort Benning. When Major Smith
goes overseas soon, his family
will remain here. Mrs. Smith is
the sister of Mrs. Hugh Lawson.

of Grovania, have purchased a
home on Smoak Avenue.

services for Mrs. M. J. Helms’
niece, Mrs. Charles Parr, in
Warm Springs on Monday. Mrs.
Parr was the wife of Capt. Chas.
