The present brick headquar
ters building on a lot which runs
the full block between Carroll
1 and Commerce Streets, the two
j branches of U. S. 41, was erected
by joint effort of the city and
J county in 1940, in cooperation of
i the Georgia Department of Pub
j lie Safety.
The city donated the property
and the county contributed to
ward the cost of the building.
■ The Kiwanis club and a citizens
i
committee, of which J. P. Ether
id ;e was chairman, worked to se-
cure location of the station here.
The dedication was attended by
Lon Sullivan who was State*
Commissioner of Public Safety in
the Rivers Administration.

I formerly in charge of the station
| here, is now an investigator for
I the Georgia Bureau of Investiga-

| headquarters here,
f Another officer who serves in
this area is Cpl. J. M. (Red)
Moore, who lives at Fort Valley
and is assigned to safety educa
tion work by the state headquar
ters.
The station has been a valuable
asset to Perry and Houston coun
ty in many ways, not the least
of which has been the fact that
it has brought many fine citizens
and families to the community.
THE OLD TANK is dead! Long
live the new tank! Workmen
finished dismantling the old
50,000-gallon Perry water tank
this week and cleared the tri
angle area beside the Methodist
church. The new 200,000-gal
lon tank in Armory Grove has
been in use for about two
months.
Say you saw it in The Home
Journal.

Missionaries
Have Gone Out
From Houston
Perry and Houston county are
just as proud in a quiet grate
ful way— for the missionaries,
doctors, teachers and other serv
ants of humanity they have pro
duced as they are for any other
hero for whom banners have
been unfurled.
Missionaries who have gone
out from the Perry Methodist
church include Miss Mary Culler
White, in China for 43 years-
Miss Nell Cater Rogers, deacon
ness in home work, now retired'
Miss Pearl Edwards, deaconness
in Ybor City, Tampa, Fla.; Miss
Clara Howard, in Korea 23 years
and now at home; Mrs. Bessie
Houser Nunn, in China three
years; and Miss Margery Short,
now on furlough after service in
Poland and Africa.
One of the early missionaries
was the Rev. Jared Dennard from
the Perry Baptist church, who
died in Africa. All Perry church
ers have produced many minis
ters, teachers and doctors down
through the years and several
young people are now in training
for similar service.
The Clifford Hunter Bible
Class of the Perry Baptist church
is named for a devoted mission
ary beloved in this church and
community. Robert Greene and
Gene Ethridge are young Baptist
ministers who have gone out
from the Baptist church here,
and T. V. Respess Sr. and his son.
T. V. Jr., entered the ministry
from here a few years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hicks Sr.
went by to Washington
State this week to visit their son,
the Rev. Robert Hicks, a Method
ist minister in the Northwest.
the WMS sponsors includes the
Junior Girls Auxiliary, of which
Mrs. F. M. Greene Jr. and Mrs.
Hoke Smith are leaders; Inter
