“ The World In His ”
Rocks Screen With Action
Swashbuckling drama, plenty of
high-powered action and some of
the most exciting Technicolor
scenery ever brought to the screen
blend to make Universal-Internat
ional’s film version of Rex Beach’s
lusty novel, “The World In His
Arms,” one of the most spectacu
lar movies ever produced.
Packed with action from begin
ning to end, “The World In His
Arms,” which opens at the Muse
Theatre Wednesday, emerges as
a personal triumph for its co
stars, Gregory Peck and Ann
Blyth. Peck, as a devil-may-care
sea captain who poaches seal pelts
from Alaska in defiance of Czarist
Russia, plays the virile role to the
hilt. Ann Blyth, as a Russian
countess arriving in 1850 in San
Francisco, displays seductive
charm in the many romatic love
scenes with Peck and proves her
right to the role that was sought
by almost every top actress in
Hollywood.
"The World In His Arms” has
been designated as Universal-In
ternational’s 40th Anniversary
Year picture and is a tribute to
the sterling showmanship of the
studio.
“The World In His Arms,” di
rected with outstanding craftsman
ship by Raoul Walsh, master of
action-drama, offers some of the
greatest sea scenes ever brought
to the screen. From the awe in
spiring scenes among the Alaska
seal herds to the breath-taking
sequences of a sailing ship race,
the Technicolor cameras have cap
tured excitement of a brand sel
dom shown on the screen.
Praise must be heaped, too, on i
sterling supporting performances,
notably by Anthony Quinn as a
