FAIR ENOUGH
When I was spending my vaca
tion with a friend in Kentucky, he
decided to take me up in the hills
to see how the mountaineers lived.
We came to a farm where a man
was lying on the front porch, smok
ing a corncob pipe, and a woman
was digging in a plot of land. I ap
proached him and asked, “Isn’t
that hard work for your wife?”
He said, “Yep, but we work in
shifts.”
“Oh, I see, when she gets tired
you take over.”
“Naw,” he said. “When she gets
tired out in the garden she shifts
to the house chores.”
RECORD BREAKER
He was a famous college athlete
and had just returned from the
Olympics with a barrelful of med
als when he fell ill. At the hospital,
the doctor took the sportsman’s
temperature, shook his head doubt
fully, and said "H-m-m-m, you’re
running a temperature of 103.”
“Oh. yeah?” answered the
athlete weakly, and then suddenly
interested, he asked, “What’s the
world’s record, doc?”
Delayed Disaster
My brother’s going to the hos
pital tonight with a broken nose.
Why doesn’t he go this morning?
Because my father isn’t going to
break it until he comes home from
work tonight.
Little Late
Say, boy, did you see a fox run
by here?
Yes, sir.
How long ago?
It’ll be a year next Christmas.
ONLY THE TRUTH
The captain of a ship once
wrote in his log, “Mate was
drunk today.” When the mate
became normal, he was terribly
chagrined and angry, he pleaded
with the captain to strike out
the record; he declared that he i
had never been drunk before,
that he would never drink again.
But the captain said, “In this
log we write the exact truth.”
The next week the mate kept
the log, and in it he wrote,
“Captain was sober today.”
Gentle Hint
With her hand on the light switch,
the woman paused in her intermi
nable chatter to inquire: “Is ev
erything shut up for the night,
dear?”
Out of the darkness came her
husband’s patient reply: “Every
thing else, dear.”
THE PROPER SPIRIT
,**!?!*:., IliljPlill!:,
Parishioner—Ah, Dr. Grimes,
how did you enjoy those brandied
peaches we sent you?
Rector—My dear Mrs. Vesper,
they were indeed delicious, but
what we appreciated especially
was the spirit in which they were
given.”
Sad Omission
I stood beneath my girl’s window
singing and serenading her, and
she threw me a flower.
What made the bump on your
head?
She forgot to take the flower out
of the pot.
Outstanding
You’re an outstanding singer,
aren’t you?
Yeah, I’m outstanding, but
Madame Priss is inside sitting.
