Big Still Destroyed
In Houston County
A bootleg whisky still capable of
producting 2,000 gallons a week
was wrecked by federal and state
agents 10 miles southeast of Perry
Monday morning and arrested
twin brothers, Robert A. Gainey
and William F. Gainey, 22, both of
Moniac, Ga.
The still was one of the largest
raided in Middle Georgia in many
. years. The agents made the raid
about 5:30 a. m. after two men had
put the still in operation. The
brothers were lodged in Bibb
county jail in lieu of $1,500 bond
after a hearing before U. S. Com
missioner W. F. Doyle. They will
be tried in federal court.
SOIL CONSERVATION
(Continued from Page One)
to every citizen, regardless of vo
cation or place of residence, we
can, this Soil Conservation Week,
express our appreciation to our
farmer friends for the fine pro
gress made in the past, and lend
them our every encouragement
and whatever assistance possible,
in the tremendous job ahead.
The road ahead is not an easy
one. Conserving soil and water is
no snap. It takes time and hard
work and money. But it is a job
that must be done someday by
someone. Its a matter of self pre
servation. As long as there is life
there must be food and fiber and
shelter. These must come from
productive soil. The cold facts of
| increasing population and decreas
ing productive land will have to be
1 faced up to. Its simply a matter of
survival.

FOOTBALL
(Continued from Page One)
game was the punting of the big
tackle, David Moulder, who twice
kicked over the head of the Hawk
insville safety man. , Moulder’s
kicking was a bright spot for the
Perry fans because last year the
punting of the Perry team was
, weak.
Hawkinsville’s main weapon was
a short jump pass and they made
’ three first downs on the play, but
they couldn’t use it on every play
and the tough Perry line wouldn’t
| let them through.
| For Perry, straight power foot
( ball paid off. Whenever the Pan
thers tried anything out of the ord
( inary, they failed to gain, but
whenever they played it straight,
they gained almost ever try.
Perry’s starting lineup included
Jerre Hartley and Ed Beckham at
ends, G. H. Duckworth and Earl
Lewis at tackles, Lamar Peavy at
center, Jimmy Beatty at quarter,
Percy Hardy and Gene Ford at
halfbacks and Virgil Peavy at full
back. Others who saw plenty of
service during the game were Ray
mond Howard, C. J. Storey, James
Lasseter, Francis Arnold, Fred
Langston, Julian Kersey, Sam
Nunn, Jimmy Wilson, Charles Dav
is, Ronnie Hall, Danny Hughes and
David Moulder.
