‘FAIR’ WEATHER FOR DRIVING
Donald Hastings, president of the Atlanta Chamber of
Commerce, is all set to ride to the Southeastern Fair in a 1908
Sears. The Fair will be held September 28 through October 8
at Lakewood Park in Atlanta.
Many Parties Given
For Miss Collier
Mrs. Mae Andrew and Miss Olga
Thurmond entertained in honor of
Miss Lula Alice Collier with a
lovely luncheon at the New Perry
Hotel last Friday.
The table was centered with a
lovely arrangement of fruit and
flowers with a garden effect. The
honoree was presented a piece of
her crystal as a gift. The brides
maids, Mrs. Wallace Stephens of
Perry, Mrs. William Dunaway of
Athens, Mrs. Bill Logan of Ma
con and Miss Betty Hartley of
Perry, and Mrs. A. D. Culpepper,
Mrs. Dorothy Sparke and Mrs.
Nell Hamlin were invited to this
affair.
On Thursday night of last week,
Mrs. C. C. Chapman honored Miss
Collier with a linen shower at her
home on Swift Street.
The house was lovely with gar
den flowers. The gifts were attrac
tively presented to the brideelect
by the charming twin granddaugh
ters of Mrs. Chapman, little Misses
Diane and Debra Chapman. A de
lightful salad course was served
to the 20 guests.
Last Saturday morning Mrs.
Clint Cooper Sr. and Mrs. John
Scarborough of Ft. Valley enter
tained with a Coca-Cola party at
Mrs. Cooper’s home on Pine Ridge
Drive. They were assisted in enter
taining by Mrs. Ellis Scarborough
and Mrs. Bill Sexton. This lovely
party was held on the terrace.
Fifteen guests were present.
At noon on Saturday, Mrs. Jul
ian Cawthon and Mrs. Dan Nelson
entertained with a luncheon for
the bride and her attendants at the I
lovely country home of Mrs. Caw
thon.
The table held a beautiful ar
rangement of yellow chrysanthe
mums and gladioli. A white cor
sarge was presented the brideelect
and smaller yellow ones were giv
en the other guests. Mrs. Verna
Lee Lasseter assisted in entertain
ing. The bride presented her at
tendants pearl necklaces. The
bride was presented a lovely May
onnaise jar by the hostesses. Ten
guests were present at this delight-

Will Invest $14,000,000 in Georgia

NEW SAVANNAH INDUSTRY Artist’s sketch of $14,000,000 petro
chemical plant which Southern Nitrogen Company, Inc. will build at Savan
nah, according to Governor Marvin Griffin. The plant will produce 250 tons
per day of ammonia which it will convert to nitrogen solutions for fertilizer
use in Georgia and the Southeast. First synthetic nitrogen plant in the South
Atlantic states, it is expected to save Georgia farmers and fertilizer men
approximately $1,000,000 annually. Scott Candler, secretary of the Georgia
Department of Commerce, said about 200 workers will be employed with an
annual payroll of $1,000,000. Plant President Jonn R. Riley said farmers and
the fertilizer industry in South Atlantic states will ultimately realize an annual
savings of $3,000,000 because of the plant's location and operation.

The tables were lovely with ar
rangements of white carnations
and gladioli with fern in silver and
ironstone urns. Silver candelabra
holding lighted tapers were used
on either side. Members of the
wedding party and a few addition
al friends were present.
On Sunday morning at 11:30
Mrs. Bill Logan of Macon and
Mrs. Wallace Stephens of Perry
entertained with a brunch at the
New Perry Hotel. The table had
a centerpiece of white in a silver
bowl with fruit effectively ar
ranged with the flowers. Covers
were laid for 10.
Personal Mention
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Skellie of
Houston, Texas, are visiting Mr.
and Mrs. W. A. Skellie for several
weeks. Buddy Skellie, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Skellie, also is
visiting his grandparents.
