Strengthen Home,
Slate PTA Leader
Urges in Talk Here
The PTA meeting held January
14 opened with a devotional given
by Miggie Molleur entitled High
way of God.
After the reading of the minutes
and the treasurer’s report, Mrs.
Gene Weems, health chairman,
told members about the work her
committee has done. 411 students
have had the visual test and 391
the audio test. Those who failed
are being followed up by the com
mittee. Also supplies totaling
$63.17 have been ordered for the
school sickrooms and a water cool
er has been ordered for the gram
mar school.
Mrs. Jim Worrall expressed
thanks to the PTA for herself and
Mrs. Staples for the books given to
the school libraries.
The speaker, Mrs. J. R. Pinsor,
was introduced by a local friend,
Mrs. Vernon Tuggle. Besides being
state president of the PTA, Mrs.
Pinsor is active in the Garden
Club, DAR and the Methodist
Church. Mrs. Pinsor brought out
first the Five Areas of Emphasis
in PTA as follows; (1) continuous
health program and cooperation
with local health authorities—
stress dental check ups and con
tribute to the March of Dimes;
(2) Generous contributions urged
for headquarters the new build
ing is almost finished; (3) Safety;
(4) School patrol; (5) Audio-vis
ual.
On a more personal level, Mrs.
Pinsor spoke of strenghtening the
home, which is the source of our
nation’s greatness. “As are fam
ilies, so is society’’ is a thought to
remember. Many good suggestions
were made by Mrs. Pinsor for in-1
1 dividual development. A child
should be allowed freedom to de
velop and also discipline which
I builds character. Courtesy, hones
ty and respect for others are traits
to develop and emphasize. A child
should have praise and apprecia
i tion, too. The home has the great
est influence on children—it is
the “first institution of God.”
i Mrs. Pinsor ended her talk by
saying we should teach our chil
; dren to bo mighty builders of the
■ land.
, The following classes won at
■ tendance banners: Mrs. Barfield,
grammar school; Mrs. Bledsoe,
junior high: Mrs. Marshall, high
i school.
The meeting closed with a re
minder that next month we will
. have a panel on juvenile problems
* with Judge Phil Anderson as mo
- derator.

BY DON GILES

The Perry Chapter of FFA is
I helping on a project for the First
Baptist Church.
We are working on tables, book
cases, and bookshelves, which will
come in handy for the new Sunday-
School building. Several FFA boy's
are helping members of the Men’s
Bible Class two nights this week.
The church has appropriated the
money with which to buy' all ma
terial needed.
All FFA members have been'
busy making speeches this week.
One boy will be picked out of each
class to represent his class in the
finals. The purpose of the public
speaking contest is designed to 1
develop rural and agricultural
leadership through providing for
member participation in public
speaking activities and stimulate
their interest along such lines.
Four district contests will be held
for the purpose of selecting a dis
trict winner to represent the dis
trict in state competition.
