Get Polio Shots
For Your Child,
Parents Advised
Recent communications to the 1
Houston County Health Depart
ment from the U. S. Public Health
Service have pointed out that
I there was more paralytic poliomye
j litis in 1958 than the previous
i year,
It also stated that most of the
Polio which occurred in 1958 was
concentrated in the non-vaccinated
groups and lastly, but significant
ly, over 50 per cent of the para
lytic cases were in pre-school chil
dren.
All of this, therefore, poses a
great challenge to parents and the
medical profession.
Dr. A. G. Hendrick of the Hous
ton County Board of Health urges
all parents to see that their chil
dren are given this protection at
an early age and he also points
out that all individuals under 40
years of age should also seek pro
tection by taking these shots.
Dr. Hendrick states that you
see your family physician for this
service or, if desired, the Houston
County Health Department, where
vaccine is available for children
under 6 years of age and also up
to 10 years of age.

Men, Like Clocks, Hun Down with Neglect
A traveler came one day to a
strange city. Over it all hung a
weird hush. On the main street
were the stores of the merchants
and as the visitor gazed through
their windows, he saw the clocks
which hung on the walls. But not
a single clock in the city was
right. Some were a half hour late,
some two, and some had not been
wound for days.
In the stores, the merchants
talked of “business being bad,”
wondering how soon “prosperity”
would come again. Hardly a man
among them looked as if his job
was not a curse. Each day was
like the next. “Business being
Bad” was all the traveler heard.
But the clocks on the walls were
the silent symbols of the empty
lives. As the traveler paused to
rest, he turned to his diary and i
wrote: “Me* are like clocks.” They
run down with neglect, just as
clocks do.
