KITH PHILLIPS BECOMES BRIDE
OF CORDON SCARBOROUGH IN CAROLINA

Scarborough of Byron, Saturday
afternoon, March 28, at 4 o’clock,
in a ceremony solemnized at the
p res bvterian Church of the Cove
nant, Greensboro, N. C.
A program of pre-nuptial music
was rendered by Mrs. L. A. Craw
ford, organist. Soloist was Jack
Smith.
The matron of honor was Mrs.
hi E. Kelly, twin sister of the
bride, of Greensboro, N. C. She
was attired in a dress of light
green chromspun taffeta, princess
style with an empire waist. Her
flowers were a bouquet of yellow
carnations.
The bride was given in marriage
by her brother-in-law, William T.
Best, of Warsaw, N. C. She was
lovely in a gown of white lace
and taffeta, fashioned with a lace
shrug jacket buttoned in back,
taffeta cumberbund and volumin
ous taffeta ballerina length skirt.
Her veil of illusion moulded to a
juliet cap embroidered with se
quins and pearls. The bride’s bou
quet was of white carnations.
The mother of the bride, Mrs.
0. 0. Phillips, wore a gown of
green silk with a corsage of white
carnations. The groom’s mother,
Mrs. R. G. Scarborough, of Byron,
Ga., was attired in dusty rose
silk and her corsage was of white
carnations.
Immediately following the cere
mony the bride’s mother gave a
reception at her home, 3908 Walk
er Ave. The bride’s table held
the beautiful tiered wedding cake.

Wedding Plans Told
Miss Rosemary Tharpe, bride
elect of Ensign Leonard Nunnally
Lokey Jr., has announced the
plans for their wedding.
The wedding to take place April
25, at the Perry First Baptist
Church with Rev. James M. Ter
esi performing the ceremony.
Mrs. Hoke Smith, Perry, will
serve as organist and Mrs. W.
Howard Brown, Byron, as soloist.
The groom will have his father
as his best man. The ushers will
be Ninivois Croft, Richard J. Man
des, Edward A. Abercrombe, all
of Statesboro, Charles Cameron,
Thomson, Andrew L. Pate, Deca
tur, Eugene H. Palmer, Decatur,
Alabama.
The bride will be given in mar
riage by her father.
Miss Faye Augusta Tharpe, sis
ter of the bride will be the maid
of honor. Mrs. Eugene H. Palmer,
Decatur, Alabama, Mrs. Andrew
L. Pate, Decatur, sisters of the
groom, Miss Hariett Perry, Moul
trie, Miss Helen Turner, Gunters
ville, Alabama will be the brides
maids.
The bride’s parents will enter
tain with a reception in the church
annex following the wedding.

The fair planning committee of
the Houston County Home Demon
stration Clubs met in the office
of Mrs. Alma Beckham on Tues
’ day, March 31. |
Mrs. Sirah Lawhorn, council pre- i
sident. presided.
It is the job of this committee
to plan for an get an eye picture
. of the fair booth as it should look
when completed. The various ex
hibits should fall into place like
parts of a jig saw puzzle. First,
there must be a theme, then as
' surances from this one and that
one that various products will be
gathered at their best, and each
club member can at least 6 large
mouth jars of good quality fruits
and vegetables.
This is the new standard of
judging the completed booths by
! the point system. Theme, 150;
, quality, 225; variety, 125; general
appearance, 12 5; arrangement,
100; originality, 125; educational
value, 150. There are larger prizes
this year. First, $450; second,
$375; third, $325; fourth, $275;
i fifth, $225; sixth, $200; seventh, 1
$175; eighth, $150; ninth, $140;
tenth, $130; eleventh, $120; twelth,

Under the able direction of Mrs.
Alma Beckham, HD Agent, and
Mrs. Sirah Lawhorn, council pre
sident, Houston County should be
a first prize winner. The dates for
the fair in Macon are Oct. 19-24.
