DENNIS FI K E GOES FOR A TWO-WINTER
As Panthers Lost Close One to Warner Robins
Warner Robins Demons Grab Second
Perry Tourney, Beating Locals, 44-42
Warner Robins High School’s
Demons raced to a 17-6 first quar
ter lead and staved off a Perry
Panther rally to capture its se
cond championship in the Perry
Christmas tournament last Friday
night, 44-42.
The Demons and the Panthers
had advanced to the finals of the
two-day meeting, Robins defeating
Unadilla easily the first night,
while Perry squeaked by Crawford
County, 54-51. In the consolation,
Crawford County defeated Una
dilla, 69-58.
The Panthers shot a weak 26
per cent of their shots against the
Demons Friday night, but seemed
content to shoot from the outside
instead of using patterns that
would get them close to the bas
ket. The cold first quarter cost the
Panthers the game, because they
played Robins on more than even
terms for the other three periods.
Warner Robins hit for a respec
table 40 per cent of their shots for
the whole game, but had better
than 60 per cent during their first
“hot” quarter. The Panthers got
within two points of the Demons
in the last few seconds but could
n’t get that badly-needed field
goal.
The tournament drew overflow
crowds on both nights, with the
stage full for the second night.
Each of the four teams received a
trophy for its part in the fourth
annual tournament sponsored by
the Perry Panthers.
