When You Give the United Way, You
Help Growing Family of Girl Scouts
“On my honor I will try to do
my duty to God and my Country,
to help other people at all times
and to obey the Girl Scout laws".
This is the promise each Girl Scout
gives as she joins the Girl Scout
movement.
Let us take the second part of
that promise: “To help other peo
ple at all times,” and see how
Houston County is affected. Wher
ever you look, you will find the
"girls in green” performing useful
tasks and acquiring new skills.
They work as aides in the hospi
tals, baby sit at church nurseries
and PTA meetings, at the swim
ming pool, libraries and in their
own homes. In distributing posters
and supplies for the United Givers
Campaign, the Scouts assist all
participating community organi
zations. In carrying out these du
ties many Scouts receive training
and discover new fields of activity
which may well determine their
choice of a career.
We can be proud of our Girl
Scout membership of 870 girls, in
48 troops in Houston County, but
there are many more girls who
would like to belong. Plans for the
coming year are to include all
communities in the county. During
the past year, services were ex
tended to Bonaire and the new
school in Warner Robins.
Girls from Perry and Warner
Robins were able to attend the
Council established camp, Camp
Martha Johnston, and to join to
gether in Day Camp activities in
Warner Robins. Houston County
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Roland and
Miss Gracie Roland of Macon were
reecnt guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mar
vin Griffin Sr,
urgently needs additional profes
sional staff to train more leaders
so that they may make Scouting
available to all the girls who want
it. Providing trained leadership
and maintaining a strong organi
zation costs money.
The Girl Scouts need all the sup
port you can give them. Give gen
erously to the United Givers Fund
campaign, so that it can continue
its vital support of Girl Scouting
in Houston county.
