Contest Produces
Thirteen Winners
Thirty Perry boys from 6 to 10
years old participated in a “Punt,
Pass and Kick” contest sponsored
by Moody Motor Company, Ford
i dealers, here last Saturday, and
13 of them came away with valu- j
able prizes.
Winners included:
6- group, Terry Lewis, only
entry.
7- group, Dennis La whom,
first; Danny Hall, second; and 5
Benny Kinnas, third.
8- group, Stanley Gray, first;
Gary Wright, second; and Carl
Pierce, third.
9- Johnny Ellison,
first; Wayne Hooks, second; and
Steve Gray, third.
10- group, Louis Moody,
first; David Allmond, second; and
Gary Chapman, third
The first prize was a complete
football uniform, second prize was
a warmup jacket, and third prize
’ was a football. Prizes were award
ed in each age group.
Coach Herb St. John of the Per
-1 ry Panthers directed the contest,
which was based on accuracy as
' well as distance.
The scorecards of the Perry
group will be forwarded to the
Ford Motor Company for compari
son with scorecards from all over
the country. The top winners in
the country will get a trip to see a
game of the Baltimore Colts, pro
fessional team, later in the year, i
Panthers Defeat
Montgomery, 21-0
The Perry Panthers defeated
Montgomery County by the score
of 21-0 Friday night in Mount Ver
non.
Neither team was able to dent
the scoring column in the first;
period but the Panthers of Coach
Herb St. John came back and tal
lied twice in the second period.
The first score of the game came
on a 3-yard plunge by Ronnie Da
vis. This play capped a 60-yard
drive that started early in the se
cond stanza. Key play in the drive
was a 30-yard pass play from Quar
terback Dozier Hasty to Halfback
Davis.
The second touchdown came on
the last play in the first half on a
30 yard run by Russ Mayo. Alton
Ellis ran the extra point.
Perry’s final score came in the
third period on a 60 yard punt
return by Davis. Davis also ran
the PAT.
Coach St. John singled out Bob
by Goodman, Charles Bridges,
Boyce Tucker, and Gene Hill for
special praise for their fine play
on both offense and defense.
A. J. Kinsaul singled out Harry
O’Conner, Bo Patterson, and Hugh
McNatt for special praise for their
fine play.
This was a Region 2-B game
and marked the first time this sea- 1
son that Montgomery County has,
been shut out.

battling each other at Perry Coun
try Club, but it is difficult which
team is winning because only little
more than one-third of the match
es have been completed.
Pro Bill Coby said the scores
stand now as follows:
Julian Cawthon’s team, 59t£
points in 28 matches.
Horace Evans’ team, 61 points
in 30 matches.
Earl Lewis’ team, 55 points in
29 matches.
Hubert Stefanini’s team,
points in 29 matches.
All matches must be completed
by Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, or
matches must be forfeited, Coby
said. He expects to have a meet
ing of the team captains this week
to decide what penalties to assess
for incomplete matches.
The two winning teams will be
j guests of the two losing teams at
a supper at the club Monday, Oct.
j 30. The bill for the food will be
paid out of the tournament entry
fees already paid.

Building Material
Dealers Studying
In 'School' Here
Twenty - six building material
dealers from Georgia, the Caro
linas and Tennessee are in Perry
this week for a course in promo
ting their home and property im
provement departments. The
course is sponsored by the Build
ing Material Merchants of Geor
gia, Inc., and the National Retail
Lumber Dealers Association.
The dealers began their school
Monday morning and will continue
through Friday, with sessions from
8:30 a. m. to 5:30 p. m.
“Be lucky, Go HAPI” is the
theme of the course, according to
Herbert Drews, executive secreta
ry of the Georgia group, which has
its headquarters here. “HAPI”
stands for “Home and Property
Improvement.”
The trend for the last two years
has been for Americans to re
model their homes and improve
their property and “keep their old
address,” Mr. Drews said. The
school wlil show the dealers how
they can profit by stressing the
remodeling phase of their busi
nesses.
Three lumber dealers who have
had success with this program are
the instructors for the school.
