REGISTRATION
DATES PLANNED
IN SCHOOLS HERE
Elementary Schools
All students that will be attend
ing the Perry Grammar School
and the new Tucker Elementary
School are urged to report to those
schools on August 26 and 27 to
have their names placed on class
rolls.
Registration will take place
from 9 o’clock until 3:30 each of
these days.
New first grade students must
also register even if they signed
up at the pre-school roundup held
in the spring. School officials have
stated that this year’s registration
is the most important ever held in
the Perry schools because it will
be the only accurate means of de
termining the number of students
to be assigned each teacher prior
to the opening day of school.
Students who do not register on
these two days will report to the
office for a delayed assignment on
the opening day of school.
Fourth, fifth and sixth grade
students attending the Perry
Grammar School will pay to eat
in the lunchroom on a daily basis
at a rate of 30 cents per day. This
applies only to students at the
Perry Grammar School in grades
four, five and six. All Tucker stu
dents will pay to eat in the lunch
room on a weekly basis of $1.50
per week.
Junior and Senior
Registration for junior high
school and senior high school stu
dents was announced.
Registration for new students
who are entering the Perry school
system for the first time will be
held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from
9 a. m. to 3:30 p. m.
The junior high students should
report to the auditorium on Main
1 Street. Senior high students are to
report to the Perry senior high
school on North Ave. from 9 to 3
p. m. in the library.
Students who have pre-register
ed for classes in Perry High
School are to report for registra
; tion to the following rooms on
Thursday, Aug. 27, from 9 a. m. to
3 p. m.:
12th grade, Commercial Room

Boundaries of Tucker School Area,
New for Perry, Outlined by Board
The boundaries of the area to
be served by the new Tucker Ele
mentary School, and the busses
which will be routed to Tucker
school, were announced yesterday
by Houston County School Supt.
David A. Perdue.
The area is bounded by the Haw
kinsville Road, beyond the “Perry
Branch”, which is located at For
rest Hill Drive, and the line of the
branch from there to Big Indian
Creek.
The line cuts the Hawkinsville
Road at Forrest Avenue, Forrest
Hill at the branch, Duncan Avenue
at the branch, and Tucker Road
at the branch. All those residing
75th Anniversary
To Be Marked Today

Perry Loan and Savings Bank
of Perry marks the 75th anniver
sary of its founding in Perry in
1889.
The bank has had only three
banking houses since its organiza
tion. It was located in the pre
sent location of Jones Jewelry
when organized. It moved from
that point to the corner of Carroll
Street and Ball Street in 1910 or
1911, where it conducted business
for 50 years. It moved into its mo
dern, outstanding building at Car
roll and Washington Streets in
1960.
Officers of the bank are G. Fran
cis Nunn, chairman of the board;
G. Ogden Persons 11, president; W.
V. Tuggle, executive vice presi
dent; C. E. McLendon, vice presi
dent; Malcolm M. Dean, cashier,
and Harold Jennings, assistant
1 cashier. Officers and employees
number 16.

Miss Carole Mason left Sunday
for Nashville, Tenn. to spend the
week wtih her cousin, Miss Jan
Meadows. Friday night Carole will
be a bridesmaid in the wedding of
Miss Meadows to Mr. Norris
Shockley.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mason will
leave Thursday for Nashville to at
tend the wedding. On Sunday, Mr.
and Mrs. Mason and Carole will
go to Gatlinburg, Tenn., for sever
al days.

Opens Here Today
The First National Bank of Pcr-J
ry will open officially at 9:30 a. m.
today in the former City Hall loca
tion at 803 Commerce Street,
which has been attractively re
modeled for the city’s newest
banking facility.
Official hours for banking busi
ness will be from 9:30 a. m. to
2:30 p. m.
A “Grand Opening” including
souvenirs and refreshments will
be held at a later date.
The new bank’s quarters have
been completely remodeled and
Diebold Company vault, drive-in ;
window and night depository in
stalled. The lobby occupies the (

Final Rites Held
For Mrs. Lawler
Funeral services for Mrs. Alex
Houston Lawler, 81, of Perry, who
died in a rest home near here
Tuesday, were held at 4:30 p. m.
Wednesday in the chapel of Gard
ner Watson Funeral Home here.
The Rev. James Teresi officia
ted. Burial was in Evergreen Cem
etery.
The widow of A. H. Lawler,
prominent road builder who died
in 1954, she had lived here 34
years. A native of Lynns Cross
ing, Ala., she was a member of
Perry Methodist Church and was
a charter member of the Perry
Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Irene L. Cartledge Eden and
a grandson, Alex Lamar (Pat)
Cartledge, both of Perry.
Pallbearers were L. C. Mills, Joe
Edwards, Yates Green, Cohen
Walker, Jimmy Connell and Hu
bert A. Aultman.
Lynward Barrett is spending ;
this week in Decatur with his bro
ther, Lonice Barrett.

The tellers appointed by the

work in the three teller positions
and at the drive-in window.
The hours of the bank will be
from 9:30 a. m. to 2:30 p. m. on
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday, and from 9:30 a. m. to 12
noon on Saturday; the bank will
be closed all day Wednesday.
The bank’s services will include
savings, checks, installment loans,
automobile loans, commercial
loans, farm loans, auto banking
and night depository and safe de
posit boxes.

The Perry Touchdown Club will
meet Thursday, Aug. 27, at the
high school cafeteria, it was an
nounced by President William
Barfield.
