Progress Seen
At Centerville
CENTERVILLE—"As has been
my policy since becoming Mayor
of Centerville, 1 feel another
progress report on my adminis
(ration is now due our citizens.”
Mayor Cedric Jones said today.
"We feel, slowly but surely, we
are moving ahead on several
fronts in the fields of public util
ities sidewalks, streets, public
relations, education, streetlight
ing and other areas." Jones said.
"Our twenty thousand dollar
plus first phase of our sidewalk
program is now nearing comple
tion It is hoped phase two of
this program can get underway
early in the coming year.
“We have received a prelimi
nary report on City Sewage and
hope to have a positive program
approved within the next 110 ,
days," Jones said. “Our engin
eering firm at this time is pre
paring to study our 1967 water
audit before presenting his final
report.
"Planned widening and resurf
acing of Collins Avenue by Hous
ton County Commissioners is in
the near future and is certainly
long needed. We do appreciate
our commissioners and their ef
forts in aiding the various city
projects.
"The first piece of street ma
chinery, a tractor and backhoe,
was purchased about 90 days ago
and we feel this was a much
needed item.
"Public information is at an
all lime high, thus helping our
public relations to improve. Plan
ned promotions are receiving
maximum publicity such as the
Gospel Sing on Labor Day.
"Our street lighting program is
continuing and many dark areas
have received lights this year.
Lights at two of our city limits
have been a real improvement.
"Our city park development
now has a group of private citi
zens working with city officials
in planning work on the project.
We hope to name a Park Com
mission soon.
"Educational facilities (or our
elementary age children are un
der construction and we are hop
ing higher schools can be obtain
ed within a period of a few years.
■ "All in all. the condition of
our city is good for the present."
