for your operations.
Generally unheated air may be
used for drying grain if the a
mount is small and there is plen
ty of time for a longer drying
period required with this type
drying.
floated air will be required
whore the quantity is large and
the drying lime is short. This
is especially true when you are
in a hurry to sell or to complete
drying in order to care for other
vthincs around your place.

STALK DESTRUCTION
It is very important that you
destroy those cotton stalks after
harvesting your cotton in order
to achieve belter insect and dis
ease control on your place.
Colton stalks should be destroy
ed as soon as possible after har
vest. It is best if they can be
destroyed before the first killing
frost.
Hy destroying these stalks you
prevent survival and buildup ol
both the insect and disease popu
lations You certainly don’t want
to provide a home for these cot
ton profit destroyers.
It your neighbor does not prac
tice early stalk destruction, why
not talk to him and try to gel
him to gel rid of his stalks, also.
After all, it lakes a community
or even county-wide effort for
•ylns practice to reach its fullest
’ potential.
Alter harvest, get those cotton
stalks down and destroyed.
PEAR VARIETIES
i’ears are possibly the most
universally adapted tree fruit for
the entire state of Georgia. It is
not uncommon to find trees as
much as -40 to 50 years old that
are still producing fruit.
li is very important that you
select the proper variety lor use
here in Houston county.
Generally, for home and local
use you can count on gelling

Heard Club Sets
Workday Oct. 12
Mrs. W. J. McGee was hostess
to the Heard Home Economics
Cmb Wednesday, Sept. 27. There
were 15 members present.
Mrs. W. J. Smith, president,
opened the meeting with the
group giving the Pledge of Al
legiance to the Flag. The devo
tional was given by Mrs. Pearl
Hammock, Mrs. Wood, secretary
treasurer called the roll, read the
minutes, and gave the treasurer's
report.
Mrs, Donna Middlebrooks and
Mrs. LaVonna Middlebrooks were
named a committee to purchase
necessary articles for eight ditty
bags for the boys in Vietnam.
This is a county-wide project and
everyone is proud to be a part
of it.
A workday will be held at Mrs.
Pearl Hammock’s on Thursday,
Oct. 12, to begin at 10 a. m.
The program on Safety was
given by Mrs. L. B. Moody, and
Mrs. Ann Smith. Mrs. Moody
demonstrated the small fire ex
tinguishers that are supposed to
be used inside the home. Mrs.
Smith demonstrated the use of
electric scissors, proving them to
be quite a boon to one who sews
regularly.
Our delegate to the state meet
ing in November at Jekyll Is
land is Mrs. Pearl Hammock.
At the conclusion of the meet
ing, the hostess, assisted by Mrs.
H. M. Murphy, served cookies
and punch. We regret the ab
sence of our home economist,
Mrs. Sasser, due to her husband’s
illness. i
Our November meeting will be
with Mrs. W. M. Helms.
Uterine
cancer
now
almost
100%
curable
Today almost any woman with
uterine cancer can be com
pletely cured if the cancer is
detected in its early stages.
A quick, painless examination
called the "Pap" test can save
your life, and should be part of
your annual checkup.
Last year, 14,000 women died
of uterine cancer, most of
them needlessly, because they
were "too busy," lacked the
necessary knowledge .
or simply waited too long.

call for an appointment
with your doctor today. Ja
