SKIPPED ENERGY
y
One-half of the American
people go to work or school
without an adequate breakfast.
However, Miss Nellie Boyd,
9 Cooperative Extension Service
nutritionist, says breakfast is
nutritionally the most important
meal of the day. It breaks a
10- to 14-hour fast and gives
j new energy.

Slow Pep Rally?
WILL THE REAL PHS
PLEASE STAND UP
“What time is it? This is a
lousy pep rally!”
"Why doesn’t anybody yell?”
“Wish this was over; I’ve got
an English paper to finish.”
Have you heard anything like
this during the pep rally? I have
heard it and I’m sure you have.
Wonder why this type of con
versation is so familiar? The
cheerleaders are the best we’ve
had; the football team will come
out on top this season; the
majorettes are prettier than
ever, yet the spirit of PHS is
like Sunday afternoon on the
porch.
I believe the majority of
students want to stand up and
yell for their team, but they
hold back lest they look eccen
tric or foolish. Also, I feel some
don’t know the cheers; but un
fortunately, there are those that
just don’t open their mouths.
The enrollment at PHS is ■
close to 700. With this number
of excited students, the pep
rallies should be deafening.
But it is so quiet you can’t,,
even hear yelling outside the
gym. What should be done? The
Perriscope would like your
suggestion. Some have men
tioned a Pep Club, and others
have suggested posters in the
halls and classrooms. Let us
hear from you and know what
you think will help.
Everyone needs to participate
for full enjoymentr-so this year
Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors,
and Seniors—all, let’s start a
wave of enthusiasm that will
surpass that of previous years.
Let’s stand up and be recog
nized as PHS Panther patriots!
New Teachers
THE NEW PHS FACULTY
MEMBERS
MISS FAYE DUNCAN
Last year PHS was privi
leged to have a fine young stu
dent teacher by the name of
Miss Faye Duncan to do her
practice teaching under the
supervision of Mr. Crowe, in
the Social Studies Department.
Having enjoyed her work here,
Miss Duncan decided to return
as a regular teacher.
At present she is teaching
courses in world history and
civics. Her background for
these courses is a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Social Studies
received from Mercer University.
She is originally from Ashbum.
MRS. SANDRA ENGLISH
Another new teacher, who
will add much to PHS faculty,
is Mrs. Sandra English, the
physical education teacher and
the cheerleading sponsor.
A native of Quitman, she at
tended Abraham-Baldwin Junior
College for two years. After
graduating there, she entered
Georgia Southern College in
Statesboro, to major in health
and physical education. Her
first teaching position was
North Clayton High School in
Atlanta for two years. From
North Clayton she has come to
teach at Periy. Mrs. English
resides in Fort Valley with
her husband, William T. Eng
lish.
GEORGE REES WALKER
New to us this year is George
Rees Walker, 22, a native of
Preston. Mr. Walker attended
Webster County High at Preston
and was an active member in
that school’s Beta Club, FTA,
and Letter Club.
After graduating with honors,
he attended Auburn University
and Georgia Southern College at
Statesboro, where he received
his B.S. degree. Mr. Walker,
who enjoyes basketball, clas
sical literature, and music,
teaches French and English 11.
Since this is his first year
teaching at PHS, the Perri-
Scope Staff wishes to send him
greetings, hoping that the year
will be pleasant and rewarding
for him and his students.
LEAHMAN STANLEY
The Perri-Scope Staff is
proud to recognize a new mem
ber of the outstanding faculty
of Perry High, Leahman Stan
ley. Mr. Stanley, who teaches
math, driver’s education, physi
cal education, is also a coach,
and is expected to be a great
asset to us.
Coach Stanley was bom in
Durham, N. C., where he also
attended high school. He also
attended Brevard Junior College
in North Carolina, and later
transferred to Georgia Southern,
where he majored in physical
education. He was a student
teacher at Dublin and a teacher
at Adel before coming to Perry.
He enjoys all types of sports,
and excels in many of them.
Since he is so charming, some
girls might wonder if he’s mar
ried. Yep, he is. Coach Stanley

let’s try to make him feel wel
come.
CHARLES CULPEPPER
Charles Culpepper is another
new-comer to Perry High School
this year, and we extend a warm
welcome to him, counting him a
real asset to our school.
Mr. Culpepper was graduated
from the University of Georgia,
and he previously taught in
Warner Robins. However, since
he and his family have resided
in Perry for the last five years,
he thought it would be more
convenient to teach here.
He is married to the former
Miss Molly Jones of Ft. Valley,
and they have two children.
Mr. Culpepper says his hob
bies are fishing and quail hunt
ing, both of which are plentiful
in our Perry area.
We are glad to have him as
the new instructor of Manual
Arts at PHS.
Coke Machines In
How surprised we were, on
the first day of school to find
Coke machines in the back
halls! We learned with delight
that they would be open first
and second periods and fifth
and sixth periods.
Later on in the day, during
our rejoicing, we learned there
was a small responsibility in
cluded with the privilege. The
Coca-cola Company had asked
us to return all bottles to their
cases.
Since this is a small service—
and really so little trouble—all
of us who enjoy the refresh
ments available urge full co
operation of the student body
so the machines may stay a
round.
Dublin Irish Win
Friday night, the Panthers
met the Dublin Irish for the
second game of the season.
During the first half a tremen
dous defensive battle went on
between the Panthers and the
Irish and from the first couple
of plays the fans could tell it
would be a tough game. The
Panthers fought hard during the
first half and went into the
third quarter 0-0.
The second half was another
hard defensive battle, but the
Panthers were weakened con
siderably by several injuries.
In the last five or six minutes
Dublin gained a safety by
blocking a punt, and the first
two points went up on the board.
Just seconds later the Irish
recovered one Panther fumble
and several of their own, scor
ing a touchdown. The extra
point was good and the game
ended 9-0, the Irish winning.
The Panthers looked a lot
better this Friday; and if they
get all of their injuries mended,
they should be ready fqr Dodge
County next week. The team has
the willpower, and if the fans
will exhibit some real spirit,
and get behind the team, the
Panthers should be moving up.
The outstanding players were
Jerry Smith, Louis Moody (both
on offense), Steve Brown, Steve
Gray, Bert Richards and Gerald
Norris.
We sincerely hope Perry was
inspired by the spirit of the
Dublin fans. The team and
cheerleaders wish to thank
those who went to cheer Perry
on, even during defeat. Our
Panthers need a chance to
show they’re greab-LET’S
SUPPORT THEM!

London Fog' goes to great
lengths for a short coat:
The Golf
London Fog calls it the Golf. But it’s as much at
home 4,000 feet over Greensboro as it is on
the green. The Golf! Impeccably tailored with
swing-easy lushly lined raglan sleeves, elastic
waistband, zip-front and slash pockets. It’s made
with wash and wearable Calibre* Cloth (65%
Dacron* polyester, 35% cotton), the same mate
rial used in London Fog’s longer coats, which
wards off the wind and repels the rain. The Golf
Jacket! That’s like calling an airplane a horse
less-carriage with wings. In a selection of sizes
and colors.
