Governor Lester Maddox
To Speak Here Friday
Governor Lester Maddox
will speak in Perry this Friday
at the meeting of the Perry
Kxchange Club. The lunch
eon meeting will be held at
the Holiday Inn at 12 o’clock.

Joe Poole told The Home Jour
nal that the public is invited to
attend the “dutch” luncheon
and hear the Governor speak.
Poole said all the civic
clubs in Perry have been in
vited to the luncheon and that
he expects a large crowd to
turn out to greet and hear the
Governor.
Maddox is already an an
nounced candidate for Lt.
Governor and is running against
incumbent George T. Smith
and Hinesville Rep. Charlie
Jones.
“We are honored that Gover
nor Maddox has agreed to
come to Perry and speak to
our club,” Poole said, “and
we want the people to come
out and meet the Governor,”
he said.

TWO PERRY GIRLS won top honor* at the state convention of Civitan
Clubs of Georgia at Jekyll Island recently. Second place winner was Martha Chew
(left) and the first place winner was Betsy Edwards. Miss Edwards, a senior at
Perry High, will compete at another beauty contest in Atlanta in June for the
Civitans and if she wins there will go on to win a trip to Hawaii next summer.

100 Year Old Home
Journal Buys Computer
The Houston Home Journal
has purchased the newest,
most up to date typesetter
now available to the newspa
per industry, according to an
announcement by Publisher
Bobby Branch.
The new phototypesetter,
.called a Compugraphic 2961,
will be put into operation at
The Home Journal around
July. The new computer will
make it possible for the news
paper to set type in a larger
and more readable size than
ever before. The computer
will also allow the Journal to
use even more news and it
speed the production of the
typesetting by about three
times over what it takes the
newspaper to now set type
for the weekly edition.
“The purchase of this
computer is another step for
ward in our policy of contin
ually improving for our readers)
the only newspaper published
by and for the people of Perry
and surrounding area,” Branch
stated.
Branch pointed out that
the new computer is the first
step planned by The Home
Journal owners in a major ex
pansion program that will take
place over the next two year
period.
The Compugraphic photo
typesetter will be operated and
maintained by one of the
present Home Journal emplo
yees, who will be trained by
the computer company.

special program to be given
by students under the direction

218 Will Get Diplomas
From Perry High School
Perry High School will
graduate its largest class
of 218 seniors on Thursday
evening, June 4 at 8:00 p.m.
Present plans call for gradua
tion exercises to be held in
the football stadium; in the
event of inclement weather
the exercises will be moved
inside to the gymnasium. Class
officers will participate in the
proceedings.
Honor graduates will be
the top ten percent of each
class. The Houston High hon

Mr. Ethridge will head the 1,600-member organization for the 1970-71 year. Mrs.
