School Board Has Money Problems
David A. Perdue, Houston
County School Superintendent,
said that present indications
show that only about 60 percent
of the federal funds expected
under previous appropriations
bills will be approved by Con
gress for the county next year.
The schools will have to be op-'
crated on a half million dollars
less than last year despite a
rise in enrollment.
Other new expenses to be
met include increased teacher
salaries and the operation of
three new schools in the sys
tem, one in Perry and two in
Warner Robins.
Only 77 percent of funds ex
pected for the 1969-70 year were
received, and Assistant Supl.
Seabie Hickson said the board
may be forced to borrow oper
ating money for the next month
or two until federal funds are
received.
