The Cook’s Nook By Mildred I. Warren Once again “The Nook” greets vis itors. Some few days ago Mrs. J. J Walker of Ft. Myers, Florida, dropped in my shop, and while she was looking at dresses we chatted a bit. She and her husband were staying overnight at the hotel enroute to Knoxville, Tennessee to visit their children. Tennessee was their former home, Mr. Walker being Treasurer of the University of Tennessee for many years. After his retirement the Walk ers moved to Ft. Myers, where they live on Matlacha Island. Mrs, Walker saw my cook book and this brought up the subject of cook ing. She gave me her recipe for Lemon Chess Pie which sounds wonderful. It is different from the one in my book, and I thought that you would enjoy it. This is the “fun part” of writing my column and my book, meeting new friends, and collecting new recipes. It was so nice to meet you Mrs. Walker, come to see us again. The next recipe is a request num ber, and is one of the best pickle rec ipes you’ll find. This one comes from Ruth McKinley Walton, and those who have had the pleasure of eating these pickles say they are as “nectar for the gods”. Really, they are that good. Lemon Chess Pie 4 eggs IV4 cups sugar 1 stick butter, melted Juice of l'/a lemons Grated rind of I lemon. Mix ingredients and pour into un baked pantry shell.
